Background and purpose of U-City R&D

  • As urbanization rate increases, various urban problems are occurring, and smart city projects are promoted through convergence of environment, city, and IT to solve this problem.
  • Internationally, smart city projects increase from about 2008 in 20 to about 2012 cities and 39 cities in 125 countries in 132.
  • In Korea, since August 2007, the U-Eco City R&D project has been promoted, and U-City-related construction projects have been supported for a total of 8 cities.

Purpose of Promotion

  • Creating a city that integrates and manages city information so that citizens can get the service they want anytime, anywhere and provides a pleasant and convenient environment by saving energy and reducing carbon emissions.
  • Creating a new growth engine industry in the convergence concept, including U-City, intelligent transportation system, spatial information, and low energy eco-friendly housing industry
