Sejong City, Asia-Pacific Smart City 

Selected as the winner of the 28 Smart City Awards in the general category

 

Sejong Special Self-governing City was selected as the general city award winner at the '1 Time Smart City Award' held in Thailand under the supervision of the Asia-Pacific Information Industry Organization.

The Smart City Awards is a program that selects and awards cities that have contributed to the realization of smart cities. The Asian and Oceanographic Information Industry Organizations will select awards from 24 member countries.

At the first Smart City Awards this year, the Asian and Oceanic Information Industry Organization selected a total of 5 award cities, including general, tourism and culture, by reviewing the positive impacts of 6 aspects such as improving the quality of life, infrastructure and government services.

Sejong City was evaluated as providing smart city standards by utilizing high-level technology and infrastructure such as solving urban problems, improving the quality of life, and building an international level of information and communication (ICT) infrastructure through the Citizen Participation Living Lab. .

In addition, Sejong City was selected as the winner city of the smart city general category because of its high score in economic growth and development potential through the 5-1 National Pilot smart city project and smart city national industrial complex.

In this competition, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province was selected as the winner city for tourism city, and 8 Asia cities such as Taiwan Girong City, Ban Chang City of Thailand and Da Nang Vietnam were named as winners by category.

Sejong City secured its international status as a leading city in the smart city field with this award following the acquisition of the Smart City International Certification (ISO37106) from the British Standards Association (BSI) last December and selection of the world's top 5 smart cities.

The head of the Smart City Division said, “This award is the result of the international recognition of Sejong City's smart city development plan.” “We will complete the Sejong-type smart city by discovering the cooperation and success cases through civic, professional and administrative governance. ”

On the other hand, Asia and Oceania Information Industry Organization is an international private organization formed by the ICT Associations of Asia and Oceania 24 countries. It was established in 1984 in order to promote ICT trade investment and expand exchange cooperation by country.

The city participated in the 'Smart City Summit 28' event held in Bangkok, Thailand by the Asian and Oceanic Information Industry Organization and announced the smart city promotion plan and the 2019-5 living area smart city National pilot smart city.
