Busan City announced that it was finally selected as the main project of the 2021 Smart City Challenge held by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport.

The'Smart City Challenge Project' is a project in which citizens, companies, and local governments work together to develop a comprehensive solution to solve problems across the city. KRW, 2 billion KRW in local expenses).

Busan City was selected as a preliminary project organization for the Smart City Challenge in May of last year, and during the preliminary project period from July 5 to February 2020, a consortium was formed with related institutions and companies in Dong-gu, Busan, a demonstration area, to demonstrate the service with citizens.

The city has focused on strengthening inclusiveness so that there are no marginalized classes or regions in the midst of a major economic and social transformation after Corona 19, and has discovered and promoted priority services for the traffic-poor people who actually need the help of smart city technology. It plans to expand to helpful services.

In the future, the main project plans to expand barrier-free navigation centering on subway stations, and build barrier-free stations and ride-sharing platforms throughout Busan. In addition, by adding new services to provide a safe walking environment for the elderly and the disabled, it plans to realize a barrier-free transportation city that can be used by both the traffic and non-communicables.

Meanwhile, for the completion of the service, the plan is to further expand citizen participation measures such as the disabled and the elderly, and to prepare a strategy for barrier-free certification.

Busan Mayor Lee Byeong-jin said, “We will promote the main project of the Smart City Challenge without a hitch, so that we can spread it nationwide and globally by creating a smart city model that allows people to experience a safe and convenient transportation environment.” Rather, we will start a service in Busan for both the citizens of the Republic of Korea and the citizens of the world.”
