– Replacement of exterior wall cleaning where there is a risk of falling, and cleaning while moving on its own with obstacle recognition and avoidance technology
– Chairman Cho Seong-il, “It is useful because it can be applied to other dome-type facilities with similar concerns”

□ The Seoul Facilities Corporation (Chairman Seong-il Cho, www.sisul.or.kr) announced on the 13th that it had signed an MOU with Hanyang University (Head of Industry-University Cooperation Group, Seong-Gyu Ha) to develop a robot for cleaning the roof and exterior walls of Gocheok Sky Dome. As a result of being selected for a government-funded project with a total of 28 billion won jointly supported by the Corporation and Hanyang University, the entire process of research, prototype development, and demonstration will be carried out together.

□ Since the beginning of this year, the Corporation has been working to find and improve the safety hazards of citizens and workers in line with the purpose of enacting the punishment of serious disasters. Among them, when cleaning the outer walls of the dome stadium, there is a high risk of workers falling due to high-altitude work, and there is a high cost problem, so a new approach is needed. As the government subsidy became available, the progress was accelerated. The goal is to complete robot development by 2025.
□ Gocheok Sky Dome is the only dome stadium in Korea with a scale of 159m in width, 221m in length and 68m in height. Cleaning has been difficult, such as the risk of falling accidents and high cost.

□ The cleaning robot is equipped with an AI-based obstacle recognition and avoidance function based on the technology of freely moving vertically and horizontally with a cleaning brush attached, so it can clean the exterior wall while moving on its own without any additional manipulation. It has the advantage that it can be applied to any facility because it can clean not only straight but also curved exterior walls.

□ Seong-il Cho, chairman of the Seoul Facilities Corporation, said, “I was able to realize the idea that came out of the process of finding out whether there are any safety hazards for citizens and workers. Therefore, it has a special advantage in terms of usability. We will do our best to achieve a successful outcome.” said
