– Providing opportunities for overseas companies to participate in IoT projects according to the Smart City strategy in Jongbu, Hong Kong –

Exhibition Overview

From October 27 to 30, Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Autumn Edition) and electronicAsia were held at the Hong Kong Convention Center. This exhibition was held at International ICT Expo, Eco Expo Asia, Hong Kong International Medical & Healthcare Fair, Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Autumn Edition). , International Outdoor and Tech Light Expo, etc. were held simultaneously with 5 exhibitions, and 18 companies from 1700 countries participated.

The Hong Kong Fall Electronics Show is one of the world's three major electronics exhibitions, along with CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas (USA) and Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Spain. In this exhibition, wired communication device parts, automobile parts, massagers, 3D printers, other sound devices, and air purifiers were mainly exhibited.

According to Hong Kong's demographic change, electronic products for one person and the elderly appeared

According to Hong Kong Statistics Korea, the number of single-person households in Hong Kong has been on the rise since 2018, as the number of people getting married has continued to decrease. Small household appliances such as single-person vacuums, air purifiers, and cooking devices are rapidly appearing as the time spent at home increases due to the spread of COVID-1 along with the surge in single-person households. Hong Kong home appliance brand PatahTech has launched an ultra-compact single-person induction stove (width 1cm x length 19cm x height 1cm) and a disinfectant diffuser that moves automatically at home (diameter 1cm x height 19cm). The single-person induction unit weighs 17g and is light in weight and easy to move. Like a robot vacuum cleaner, the automatic disinfectant diffuser changes direction when it hits an obstacle. With a volume of about 8.1 m18, the distance through which the disinfectant is spread is limited, but its high space utilization is considered an advantage.

In addition, according to data released by Statistics Korea in Hong Kong in 2020, the number of people aged 20 and over in Hong Kong is expected to approximately double within the next 65 years. As Hong Kong's demand for elderly care products is increasing due to an aging population, elderly home monitoring systems using innovative technologies are being launched. The wireless elderly monitoring system developed by Hong Kong company Venture Global is a device that can be deployed at home or in a nursing home to monitor the motion and body temperature of the elderly, and can recognize emergency situations and notify guardians. According to a company official, compared to Hong Kong, Korea has a more severe aging problem, so technology to support the life of the elderly has developed, and it was evaluated that it has high product competitiveness as it supports precise production capacity even in complex product design.

Growing demand for Internet of Things (IoT) and robots according to the development direction of 'smart city'

In this exhibition, the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO), a department in charge of ICT policy of the Hong Kong government, introduced the 'Smart City' strategy to be operated based on innovative technologies in the future and exhibited related technologies. Among them, IoT sensors that can be used for 5G communication networks, unmanned parking lots, and public data disclosure are attracting attention as a technology that can become the basis of future smart city services. At the site, a mountaineering location information sensor based on LoRa* (Long Range) technology, a parking lot vehicle sensor, and a public toilet occupancy sensor were exhibited.

*Note: As a wireless communication technology for sensor networks, it is a communication technology that can transmit a small amount of data over a long distance and with low power.

According to an engineer expert from the Engineering and Mechanical Service Department (EMSD) at the exhibition site, the Hong Kong government recently developed a Government-Wide IoT Network (GWIN) similar to G-IoT developed by the Korean government. He mentioned that he is accepting technology proposals from overseas companies with great potential through bidding. However, as device suitability and security are important requirements, he mentioned that it is necessary for companies to check in advance whether they meet the government standards by referring to the technical standards through the EMSD website.

Also, as COVID-19 sparked a craze for robot investment around the world, in May of this year, Hong Kong's Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD) developed a robot dog that can collect data from landslide sites and analyze the possibility of landslides using satellite imagery. According to system manager Peter Chung, one of the organizers of the smart city exhibition booth, Hong Kong is expected to become an area of interest in the industry in the future as the trend of unmanned society and robotics continues.

Women's personal care products that pursue perfection in function and design

As Hong Kong consumers become more health conscious, health electronics dominate the market. MIXU, a Hong Kong personal care brand targeting women, has released a lightweight 0.26kg product by integrating the motor, handle, and charger of the portable muscle massager so that women can use it easily. Although it can be used for 3-4 hours, the weight of the product has attracted attention as the lightest on the market. In addition, MIXU pioneered the market for women's personal care products by developing a massager using cupping therapy* of Chinese medicine for modern people who do not have time to receive treatment and making it in the shape of a cat's paw. This is a product that stimulates acupuncture points to relieve fatigue, unlike a massage that mimics cupping therapy and massages the muscles. It has a total of 5 functions. By performing traditional Chinese medicine treatments with modern devices and methods, the existing personal care products have been upgraded to the next level.

*Note: This is a treatment that applies negative pressure to a specific part of the body, causing congestion of capillaries and helping body fluids to circulate throughout the body.

In addition, beauty product brand Ommi Care has launched an electric nail art machine that can be used as a variety of nail care tools for those who have difficulty in nail art. With simple product design and easy use, consumers can do self-beauty at home.

implication

At this year's Autumn Electronics Show in Hong Kong, a variety of electronic products centered on small and medium-sized brands were introduced. The electronics manufacturing industry tended to pursue perfection in the design and function of existing products in order to actively reflect the diverse needs of consumers and capture the hearts of consumers. Korean companies interested in the Hong Kong market can use the Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Spring Edition) to be held at the Hong Kong Convention Center in April next year as an opportunity to enter the market.

In addition, as the demand for printed circuit boards, batteries, semiconductors, and aluminum alloys increases due to the diversification of electronic products, competition among countries is intensifying, and raw material and product prices are expected to continue to rise.
