Jeju Island, AI grafted disease prediction and simple diagnosis… Addressing the problem of antibiotic overdose
Selected as the first place in the data construction project for artificial intelligence learning by the Ministry of Science and Technology

■ Jeju Special Self-Governing Province applies artificial intelligence (AI) and big data technology to solve the problem of mass extinction of flatfish farming, which accounts for half of domestic fish farming production.

○ The damage caused by diseases caused by diseases of aquaculture in Korea is increasing every year.

○ The project was started from the awareness that there is no monitoring method that can diagnose diseases more quickly and accurately in the aquaculture field, and there are also problems with resistance and food safety due to the use of antibiotics.

■ We plan to establish AI learning data and diagnose diseases by registering individual information such as disease name, symptom site, symptom classification, disease progression stage, size, and weight in the image taken of the diseased flatfish by part.

○ In order to increase the accuracy of disease prediction, information on the water quality environment related to the occurrence of a specific disease and feed, nutrients, medicines, and breeding management are also constructed.

○ Along with building data for AI learning, a model that can be practically used in the field is also developed. It will be possible to quickly and easily check whether the farm environment is vulnerable to disease, such as when it is difficult to visually check or requires professional disease detection, such as bleeding disease or inflammation, with a smartphone.

■ Through this project, Jeju Island will lay the technical foundation for a preemptive and effective response to mass extinction of flatfish, and contribute to offsetting threats to the aquaculture industry and health and environment through inefficient breeding such as excessive use of antibiotics. is considered to be

○ For this project, Jeju Island formed a consortium in the data advancement field of the '2022 artificial intelligence learning data construction project (3rd)' promoted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Intelligence Information Society Agency (NIA). It was selected first among a total of 20 consortiums and secured a total of 1 billion won in government funds.

○ In the consortium organized by the provincial government, experts in establishing high-quality disease data such as Globit Co., Ltd., Fish Care Lab, ㈔ Korea Fisheries Disease Control Society, Jeju National University, Pusan National University, and Jeju Fish Farming Cooperative Association, expert advisory organizations, and academic circles participate in the consortium. . In addition, 20 farms in the province will work together to secure accurate field data for diagnosing flatfish disease.

○ The project will be carried out until December this year after signing an agreement between the consortium and the dedicated institution (NIA).https://aihub.or.kr) can be used by anyone.

■ Hyung-seok Yoon, head of Jeju Provincial Future Strategy Bureau, said, “With this project, we will check the possibility of field application such as disease outbreak prediction, simple diagnosis, and rapid response in the Jeju flatfish aquaculture industry. I will support you,” he said.
