– MOLIT selected as an autonomous driving mobility operator… Operating as early as October –

# Travelers arriving at Jeju Airport use the self-driving carrier delivery service between the airport and the Jungmun Hotel and send their heavy luggage to the hotel first. Afterwards, enjoy sightseeing with a circular self-driving tour shuttle service that connects major tourist bases near the airport and arrives at Jungmun Hotel using an autonomous car.

As early as the second half of this year, self-driving cars will start operating shuttles with passengers in Daegu and Jeju.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport announced on the 24th that in the 'Autonomous Driving Mobility Service Business' contest, a consortium (association) hosted by Autonomous AXNUMXG and IT Telecom was selected as the final operator, respectively.

This public offering is a project to support a subsidy of 2 billion won (80 billion won each in the first and second years) for two years for a private autonomous vehicle-based mobility project.

MOLIT explained that this project is significant in that it provides self-driving services that are tangible to the public and at the same time provides opportunities for self-driving demonstrations to sprouting companies (start-up companies) and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

MOLIT selected the final operator by evaluating the innovativeness of the business model, the feasibility of technology applied to the service, and the effect of enhancing public acceptance of the autonomous vehicle service targeting the seven consortiums participating in the second public offering.

The Autonomous AXNUMXG Consortium plans to lay the foundation for a vehicle platform and related communication infrastructure that can provide integrated services for passengers (demand-response) and logistics (delivery service) against the backdrop of Daegu Technopolis and the National Industrial Complex.

The consortium includes Kakao Mobility, KT, Hyundai Auto Ever, Newbility, and Korea Automobile Research Institute.

The IT Telecom consortium plans to provide a circular self-driving tour shuttle service that connects major tourist bases near Jeju International Airport, a carrier delivery service between the airport and the Jungmun Hotel, and a public transportation shuttle bus service.

Rideflux, Gwangmyeong D&C, KAIST, and Jeju Research Institute will participate in this consortium.

Each consortium manufactures autonomous vehicles based on subsidies and operates businesses by establishing autonomous driving infrastructure in service target areas.

During the project period, around 11 level 3 autonomous vehicles (IONIQ, Solarti, etc.) will be manufactured and operated. The 'Autonomous Vehicle Act' divides Level 3 into 'Partially Autonomous Vehicles' and Levels 4 to 5 as 'Fully Autonomous Vehicles'.

Self-driving cars used in this project basically provide autonomous driving services, but they are operated with professionally trained safety personnel on board in case of emergencies.

Autonomous vehicles manufactured in the course of the project will be returned by the government upon completion of the project and used to provide continuous mobility services, such as lending them to industries, academia, and research institutes for various test runs and data collection.

MOLIT will sign a specific business plan agreement with the consortium during this month, and each consortium plans to start manufacturing autonomous vehicles and build infrastructure from June. As early as October, autonomous vehicles for passenger transportation will be operated first.

Park Ji-hong, MOLIT's Automotive Policy Officer, said, "Through this project, people will be able to experience a more stable autonomous vehicle mobility service and realize that the era of autonomous vehicle commercialization is fast approaching." We will spare no effort in policy support such as improvement, infrastructure advancement, and technology development support.”
