– 'Micro LED display industrialization support infrastructure and infrastructure construction project' confirmed
– Consortium of 6 institutions including Gyeonggi-do, Korea Institute of Optical Technology and Korea Display Research Association
– Secured 100 billion won in national budget… By 2026, a total of 43 billion won including 143 billion won will be invested
– Establishment of 'cooperation base center and process equipment' grafted with optical fusion technology... Expectations for local business growth

Gwangju Metropolitan City participated in the 'Industrial Innovation Infrastructure Construction Project' contested by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy as a consortium with 6 institutions including Gyeonggi-do, Korea Optical Technology Institute, Korea Display Research Association, Korea Electronics Technology Research Institute, and Korea Automobile Research Institute. It was announced on the 25th that the 'Infrastructure and Infrastructure Construction Project to Support the Industrialization of LED Display' was finally selected.

Gwangju City participated in this competition to respond to various demands such as autonomous driving and virtual reality in accordance with the 4th industrial revolution, the digital new deal, and the acceleration of the non-face-to-face economy, and to build an infrastructure and infrastructure for the micro LED display and signage industry.
※ Signage: Derived from the English word sign, a visual structure created to convey specific information like a sign (e.g., traffic lights, signboards, road signs, restaurant menu boards, large outdoor screens, etc.)

By selecting this competition, Gwangju City and others will secure 2026 billion won in national funds for five years until 5 and invest 100 billion won in local funds to build a 'cooperation base center' for local optical convergence companies to enter the micro LED signage industry. In particular, it plans to support 'equipment construction and process service' for mass production of micro LED signage such as digital signage and transparent signage to which 43-150㎛ LED is applied.

In addition, through comprehensive information system services, workshops, technical consulting, and on-site practical conversion training, industrial information diffusion support and industrialization technical support for prototype production, difficult technology, and performance evaluation are provided to maximize the revitalization of the industrial ecosystem.

With the establishment of a cooperative base center in Gwangju City, local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) related to light source, package, and module light fusion can effectively enter the ultra-large, high-density, transparent and flexible high-tech micro LED signage industry, and the entire life cycle service support system for pixel, assembly, and module processes It is expected that effects such as strengthening the competitiveness of optical convergence companies by supporting establishment, conversion and expansion of business areas are expected.

Oh Dong-gyo, head of the Future Industry Policy Division, said, “We expect this project to serve as a foundation for the sustainable growth of the optical convergence industry. We will actively take steps to revitalize the local optical convergence industry by supporting the Niji industry.”
