Incheon Economic Administration, Connected Car Wireless Communication Technology Certification Evaluation System Establishment Project MOTIE Selection
Total project cost of 148 billion won… Establishment of wireless communication performance evaluation system, etc.

○ The project to build a core technology related to the connected car service, a future car, was selected in a national competition, and the Incheon Free Economic Zone (IFEZ) Cheongna International City has laid the foundation for this project to become a Korean base.

○ Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority announced on the 25th that the 'Connected Car Wireless Communication Technology Certification Evaluation System Construction Project' was recently selected in the 'Industrial Innovation Foundation Construction Project' hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

○ This system is △Construction of a performance verification system for wireless communication, a core technology of connected car service, △Establishment of an actual vehicle/part unit basis for certification evaluation of electronic devices connected to wireless communication (products powered by electricity), △Certification evaluation and technical support such as technology development and service application development are the main business contents.

○ A total of 148 billion won will be invested in building the system, including government and municipal expenses, and the Korea Automobile Research Institute will supervise and implement tests and equipment necessary for certification evaluation of the Connected Car Materials and Parts Certification Evaluation Center by 2024.
○ It is currently located in Incheon Robot Land, Cheongna, with a total floor area of 4,110 m3 and 2024 floors, and will be built in the Connected Car Materials and Parts Certification Evaluation Center with a goal of operation in XNUMX after basic and detailed design this year.

○ The Incheon Economic Administration expects that IFEZ will take off as a key base for connected cars, a global trend, and create jobs by selecting this competition, while also anticipating the growth of new industries in Korea by preoccupying localized technologies related to vehicle communication.

○ In particular, it is expected that it will play a big role in preoccupying technology for domestic companies as it can support the entire cycle of design-verification-certification-demonstration development through the construction of equipment related to connected car-related technologies.

○ Seong Yong-won, Deputy Director of Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority, said, “As the spread of connected cars is accelerating through commercialization of 5G service and activation of car-sharing (car-sharing) service around the world, IFEZ was selected for this competition in this competition. It is very meaningful that it has been confirmed as a core base of the industry.

○ A connected car is a future car with improved safety and convenience by using information and communication technology (ICT) to transmit, receive, and utilize information. Two-way wireless communication is possible, and communication connection between all objects as well as other vehicles is possible, providing various convenient information for drivers such as safe driving information.

○ Connected car-related technologies are used as core technologies for autonomous vehicles. Collision warning signals and intersection control information can be exchanged with other vehicles, pedestrian terminals, and road infrastructure, and traffic safety support, real-time road guidance, and vehicle inspection services can be received from the traffic center.
