□ On the 9th (Thursday), the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced the start of the Roboride service in Gangnam, which is complex around the world beyond Sangam, along with MOLIT and Hyundai Motors, and started the era of full-fledged urban autonomous driving.
□ Unlike Sangam, Roboride is not a shuttle bus that operates on a fixed route, but a technology and service that determines everything and operates autonomously, such as finding the shortest route in real time and autonomously driving according to the departure and destination of passengers. .
□ If autonomous vehicle operation in Sangam, etc. is a shuttle type, the Roboride service is a concept that operates while freely changing routes according to real-time traffic conditions without a fixed route. Through this first Roboride, the city will complete autonomous vehicle technology and provide multi-faceted support so that it can be reborn as a means of transportation used by citizens in daily life.
○ However, for safe operation, safety personnel (emergency drivers) will be on board to deal with emergency situations, and through demonstration, the intervention of safety personnel (emergency drivers) will be gradually reduced while developing unmanned driving technology.
□ Mayor Oh Se-hoon boarded the autonomous car Roboride as the 'No. 9 passenger' on Thursday, the 1th, and announced the start of the autonomous driving service. In particular, with Minister of MOLIT Won Hee-ryong, departing from the Hyundai Auto Ever office building in Gangnam (Luchen Tower) and moving along the Teheran-ro circulation route (Posco Intersection - Seolleung Station - Renaissance Hotel, 3.4 km), the final inspection begins before the service starts in earnest.
○ Mayor Oh Se-hoon accompanied Hyundai Motor CEO Young-woon Gong and checked autonomous vehicle technology and safety, encouraging Hyundai Motor officials who worked hard to develop autonomous driving technology.
○ Prior to the full-scale operation of the Robo Ride, the city has implemented various safety measures, such as conducting technology and safety inspections involving external experts from the “Seoul Self-Driving Vehicle Steering Committee”.
□ The city, along with MOLIT and Hyundai Motor Company, will supplement and improve technologies and services by collecting various opinions during the beta service period in which experts and autonomous driving officials will board for the next two months, and from August at the earliest, the city will gradually make it available to citizens. We are about to start full service.
○ The number of Roborides will be gradually expanded in consideration of the response of citizens and driving safety.
○ How to use will be provided separately prior to the full-scale citizen service, and it will be implemented so that anyone can use it in the mobile app.
□ The Roboride service runs all over Gangnam, starting with 26km of 48.8 roads this year, including ▴Tehran-ro, ▴Gangnam-daero, ▴Youngdong-daero, ▴Eonju-ro, and ▴Nambu Beltway. The operating area will be expanded.
□ This is to implement autonomous driving in a wide area around the world, and the city said it has the meaning of demonstrating the world's best autonomous driving technology in the middle of complicated Gangnam, not on an idle road.
□ The city has been actively supporting autonomous driving operation together with MOLIT. Since '20, a traffic signal opening infrastructure has been built and operated for autonomous vehicles that provides not only the color of real-time traffic lights in 132 second increments, but also the remaining time when the next traffic light color changes for a total of 0.1 intersections. As the autonomous driving demonstration stage expands from Sangam to Gangnam, the speed of technological development and commercialization is expected to accelerate.
○ With the current technology, it is virtually impossible to recognize 100% traffic signals only with signal recognition vision sensors, so opening traffic signals is an essential infrastructure for autonomous driving in the city. In particular, it plays a role in supporting safe autonomous driving even in the event of a sensor failure.
○ In the future, in connection with the expansion of the Roboride operation areas such as Apgujeong-dong and Sinsa-dong, we plan to spare no effort in providing support such as additionally constructing an infrastructure to open traffic signals at 32 intersections.
