– A splendid achievement following securing 5 billion won in government funding for 80 years and 100 billion won in building a robot refurbishment center
– Cruising through 'Focus on nurturing Gyeongnam customized specialized robot industry' through successive public offerings
– Service robot 'production, demonstration, commercialization' supported in three beats, rapidly emerging as a center for robot manufacturing

Gyeongsangnam-do was finally selected for the 'Service Robot Common Platform Production and Demonstration Project' contest to eliminate entry barriers for commercialization and localization of intelligent robot SMEs promoted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (exclusively: KIRIA) said it did

This is a splendid achievement following the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's 'used robot refurbishment (remanufacturing) center construction project' of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (dedicated: KIAT) on the 20th of last month, which secured 100 billion won in government funds.

The 'Service Robot Common Platform Production and Demonstration Project' will be conducted by MOTIE, Gyeongsangnam-do, and Changwon City with a total investment of 150 billion won (80 billion won from the government, 45 billion won from the local government, and 25 billion won from the private sector), until 2026, Gyeongnam Robot Land Foundation's Robot Research Center 2 This project supports the production of prototypes by building extensions (total floor area of 530㎡) and service robot verification equipment (21 units of 23 types).

The International Federation of Robotics (IFR) predicts that the home service robot market will grow at a CAGR of 2019% from $46 billion (about KRW 5 trillion) in 4100 to $ 2022 billion (about KRW 115 trillion) in 13. It is expected to grow at an average of 5000% or more.

In addition, the proportion of manufacturing and service industries centered on robots is gradually increasing as they are fused with new technologies based on the 5th industrial revolution such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and 4G. In particular, the role of robots is very important in the era of non-face-to-face contact that began with the spread of COVID-1919, and an explosive increase in demand is expected.

Accordingly, the 'Service Robot Platform Production and Support Center' to be built at the R&D Center of the Gyeongnam Robot Land Foundation is expected to be a stepping stone for the revitalization of the service robot industry and the independence of the Gyeongnam Robot Land Foundation by utilizing the Robot Land theme park.

It is expected to contribute to securing global competitiveness through the commercialization of domestic service robots and alleviating the burden of companies' robot development and commercialization by establishing an infrastructure to manufacture and use service robots capable of product diversification.

In addition, reliability of service robot quality can be improved through driving test performance evaluation using Robot Land theme park, and it is expected to contribute to the long-term development of the service robot industry through professional company development and expert consulting.

Gyeongnam-do has abundant demand from related industries such as machinery, automobiles, shipbuilding, and aviation, and has accumulated demand for the robot industry such as national industrial complexes. It has strengths in the field of manufacturing robots.

Based on the robot-using manufacturing environment, the service robot production and support infrastructure to be built this time will be used to enhance the competitiveness of service robot SMEs and promote the advancement of the domestic industry.

Jo Yeo-moon, head of the manufacturing industry in Gyeongnam Province, said, “We expect that the successive government public offering projects will give great hope to the robot industry workers who are intensively nurturing them as future food sources. We will lay the foundation for growth that can lead the industry.”
