– 10 billion investment to create a smart senior center that connects health, information, and culture –
Gongju City announced on the 2022th that it was the only one in Chungcheong Province to be selected for the '17 Digital Town Creation Project' hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. (image provided)
This open call project was carried out to improve the quality of life of residents while solving problems such as a decrease in the local population through the establishment of services using information and communication technology (ICT).
Of the 107 target local governments in depopulated areas across the country, 45 local governments participated in the contest, and a total of 6 local governments including Gongju City were finally selected. Gongju is the only city in Daejeon, Sejong, and Chungnam.
Accordingly, the city will build a digital space by introducing AI companion robots and intelligent electric glass (smart mirrors) in 20 places for each senior citizen in the city under the theme of 'Happy Years~ At Smart Senior Citizens'.
In addition, it plans to create a new concept senior center that connects health, information and culture, such as ▲ indoor smart farm operation ▲ happy smart platform establishment ▲ metaverse social activity platform ▲ smart network support.
The city plans to complete the project within this year by investing a total of 5 billion won by adding 5 million won to the 10 million won in special subsidy tax received from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety as a result of the selection of the public offering project.
Jang Byung-deok, head of the Senior Citizens’ Division, said, “We will contribute to improving the life satisfaction of senior citizens by reflecting residents’ opinions and distributing medical and welfare digital-based care programs that connect health, information, and culture to senior citizens.”
