The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport (Minister Won Hee-ryong) announced that the '8 World Smart City Expo', which was held as a face-to-face event for the first time in three years at KINTEX from August 31 (Wed) to September 9 (Fri), closed successfully with the largest business performance and number of visitors ever recorded.

Despite the COVID-19 situation, it recorded the highest number of visitors ever of 3 for three days, confirming the public's keen interest and enthusiasm for smart cities.

A total of 301 institutions at home and abroad participated and 1,548 booths were created in the exhibition hall, with foreign buyers from 21 institutions in 61 countries, including the Netherlands, Mongolia, and Saudi Arabia, and purchasing managers from 43 domestic conglomerates visiting 150 times, KRW 3,188 billion Scale business consultations were conducted.

As a result, export contracts for excellent smart city solutions such as street light wireless management solutions and vehicle operation management platforms developed by domestic small and medium-sized enterprises were concluded. It achieved the highest business performance ever, up 1,178% from KRW billion.

In a special interview held at the opening ceremony, 1st Vice Minister of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport Lee Won-jae said, “Korea has developed a K-city network cooperation project to share its smart city development experience with the world. We are supporting the development of 20 smart cities in countries,” he said. “In order to solve the urban problems of developing countries, it is necessary to spread smart cities. We need to strengthen cooperation,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport is promoting the 'Smart Challenge' that supports the proliferation of smart cities by local governments. The city business was introduced, and there was also a competition between smart solutions developed by domestic and foreign companies in the smart city field, such as smart home, urban air service (UAM), water-friendly information smart water purification plant, and urban water disaster response system.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport will hold a local road show (Thailand, Turkiye) to support SMEs' overseas expansion within this year as a follow-up to this World Smart City Expo, and the world's largest industrial exhibition in the smart city field. Participating in the 'Smart City Expo World Congress', the company plans to actively promote Korea's smart cities, such as creating a Korean pavilion.
