The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport announced that 18 cities, including Jinju, received awards at the City Awards ceremony held at the Jongno-gu Community Center in Seoul on the 14th.

The awards ceremony was held in conjunction with the City Day event in Jongno-gu, Seoul, the city that won the Presidential Award last year.

The awards ceremony was attended by officials including Wonjae Lee, 1st Vice Minister of MOLIT, and heads of water cities such as Jinju Mayor in Gyeongnam (Presidential Award) and Bucheon Mayor in Gyeonggi Province (Prime Minister Award).

The Korea Urban Grand Prize is awarded annually to local governments that have achieved excellent results in the evaluation of urban sustainability and living infrastructure as stipulated in Article 3-2 of the National Land Planning and Utilization Act.

Specifically, it evaluates sustainable and balanced urban development, land use efficiency for a convenient and pleasant life of residents, safety, comfort and convenience of living space, and adequacy, ease, accessibility, and convenience of living infrastructure.

This year's Urban Grand Prize is the President's Award, the Prime Minister's Award, and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport Minister's Award based on evaluation indicators reflecting the National Sustainable Development Goals (K-SDGs) that pursue an inclusive society, quality of life, and clean environment. etc were selected.

Jinju, Gyeongsangnam-do, which received the Presidential Award, took the overall first place by receiving high scores in all fields, including first place in the social sector, second in the economy, second in the environment, and first in the support system.

For the aerospace industry, which is a specialized industry in the region, Jinju City has policies to promote industries such as the establishment of a rotary wing flight center (420 billion won), a public aerospace specialized science center (350 billion won), the creation of the Gyeongnam Aviation National Industrial Complex (2198 billion won), and support for the development of micro-satellites. It was evaluated that it stood out.

It also actively promoted policies to revitalize the original downtown area, such as supporting the national and provincial expenses of 5 billion won by promoting urban regeneration projects in five districts in the region.

In addition, it actively promoted policies to support the disabled, such as the operation of a barrier-free certification system for the realization of a barrier-free city, and expansion of barrier-free infrastructure and convenience facilities.

Efforts to improve the quality of life of citizens by supporting various cultural and sports activities such as the Namgang Riverside Multipurpose Cultural Center, water sports center, connection of Namgang cycle network (217km), and operation of bicycle classes were evaluated as excellent.

Bucheon, Gyeonggi-do, which received the Prime Minister's Award, ranked second overall by receiving high scores in various fields, including 5th in the social field, 1st in the economic field, 1st in the environment field, and 3rd in the support system field.

Bucheon City excelled in crime prevention policies such as creating a safe way for women to return home and improving the surrounding pedestrian environment through light. received

In addition, it is evaluated that the Low Impact Development policy, which enables both development and conservation, such as creating a water-friendly space and reducing fine dust through the ecological river project, stood out.

The MOLIT Minister's Award was given in the field of urban policy and excellent policy cases.

In the urban society sector, Busan Suyeong-gu, which excelled in its efforts to create a safe urban environment such as improvement of alleyways in crime-prone areas and improvement of pedestrian environments for children, and Mokpo, Jeollanam-do, which operated various crime prevention ordinances, such as the Safe City Ordinance and the Safe Home Road Creation Ordinance, received awards.

In the urban economy sector, Daejeon Seo-gu, which has excellent efforts to revitalize the local economy, such as the creation of the Pyeongchon Eco-friendly Industrial Complex, and the operation of a job situation room directly under the mayor, and the creation of 1 good jobs by creating a closed bookmaker as a global innovative start-up growth hub has won

In the field of urban regeneration policy, Buk-gu, Gwangju, which promoted the discovery of small business founders, establishment of sales channels, and the regeneration of an art city, and Chungju, Chungcheongbuk-do, which created an urban regeneration community space (Jihyeon Cultural Platform) where art and culture experience are shared, won the award.

In the field of climate change, Dobong-gu, Seoul, which enacted the 'Climate Change Response Ordinance' that stipulates carbon neutrality at the local level for the first time in the country, and achieved the highest grade (A) in the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) evaluation last year, won the award.

In the high-tech city category, Seongdong-gu, Seoul, won the award for its smart infrastructure construction, such as smart crosswalks and smart shelters, and policy making using big data.
