At the request of Japanese companies... Introducing Bucheon's major smart city know-how

Four Japanese information and communication technology (ICT) companies visited Bucheon on the 4th to benchmark Korea's smart city business.

This visit was made at the request of Japanese companies who respectively visited the Bucheon Smart City Exhibition Hall prepared at the Barcelona Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC) and the World Smart City Expo (WSCE) last year. They requested exchanges with the city of Bucheon to enhance their understanding of the smart city project.

Nine people, including the CEOs of four companies, including NEXTMOD, Nippon Telematicu, an affiliate of NTT, a famous Japanese telecommunications company, and Roquestar and Skyland, ICT consultants, participated in the delegation.

Bucheon City invites visitors to the traffic information center ▲sharing economy platform (smart city pass) ▲safety (artificial intelligence (AI)-based pedestrian crossing notification, missing person search) ▲transportation (real-time traffic information collection across the city, AI and big data-based traffic prediction/signal control, etc.) and other smart city solutions were introduced. Bucheon City Corporation and companies participating in the Smart City Challenge project also joined together to provide a venue for wider exchange.

Starting with the bus information system in 2000, Bucheon City is leading projects for smart city operation, such as the National Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) Pilot Project, Songnae Transfer Center Construction, Smart City Challenge and ITS Project. Last year, along with smart city service certification, it was recognized domestically and internationally as a leading smart city by winning the 'City Division Awards' at the 'World Smart City Expo'.

Skyland CEO Katsutoshi Shirakawa said, "Bucheon City's activities toward smart city have become a model for our company." expressed his feelings.

Oh Dong-taek, Bucheon City Smart City Manager, said, “I hope this benchmarking will serve as an opportunity for companies participating in smart cities in our city to advance domestically and internationally.” said.
