It seems that the 'flying car', which existed only in the distant future imagination, can be seen in the sky of Seoul. It is expected to introduce a tourism service that allows you to quickly move to major areas such as Gimpo Airport, Yeouido, and Jamsil, and fly while enjoying the sunset over the Han River.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that it would promote a demonstration project with MOLIT and begin full-scale preparations for the commercialization of Urban Air Mobility (UAM).

UAM is an eco-friendly future means of transportation capable of vertical take-off and landing without a runway. The world is paying attention in terms of ground transportation, solving environmental problems, and technological advancement and convergence. We are committed to developing related technologies.

In order to commercialize UAM, overall flight safety, such as airframe, control, and communication, must be sufficiently verified. In the second half of this year, the first stage demonstration project will be carried out in an open area, and from 1, the second stage demonstration project will be promoted with the participation of the consortium that passed the first stage in the metropolitan area.

The 2nd stage demonstration project route encompasses Ara Waterway - Han River - Tancheon [Seoul] Gimpo Airport - Yeouido (18 km), Jamsil - Suseo (8 km), [Gyeonggi] KINTEX - Gimpo Airport (14 km), [Incheon] Drone Testing & Certification Center ~ It was selected as Gyeyang New Town (14 km), and the demonstration schedule is from the second half of 24 to the first half of 25.

Through the demonstration project, it plans to verify the safety of flight routes, airframes, etc., air and air communication networks, integrated operation system, operating environmental noise, etc., and review related regulations based on the results.

The second stage demonstration project is planned to start from the semi-urban area and enter the city center, and will be promoted in the order of Incheon section, Gyeonggi section, and Seoul section.

The city of Seoul is also reviewing the location of the Vertiport to start commercialization after the second stage demonstration project. In addition, in connection with the 'Great Han River Project', plans are being reviewed to simultaneously launch a UAM passenger transport service and a tour service overlooking the beautiful sunset of the Han River in Seoul.

The UAM tourism service is one of the presidential pledge projects (creation of a UAM flight tour route over the Han River) and is also included in the 'Great Han River Project' of Seoul (introduction of UAM).

The Seoul Metropolitan Government plans to diversify means of transportation that connect in and out of the Han River by land, water, and air, and develop Han River tourism products by linking UAM with the “Great Han River Project,” whose vision is to “enjoy a greater Han River together.” .

In addition, the Seoul Metropolitan Government plans to announce the 'Seoul-type UAM Introduction Master Plan' in the second half of this year, which contains a master plan such as the direction of Seoul-type UAM introduction, vision, and mid- and long-term plans for the successful introduction and commercialization of UAM.

Yoon Jong-jang, head of the Seoul City Transportation Office, said, “It is not long before we see the flying car in reality, which we have only imagined,” and added, “Seoul City will take the lead in preparing for the commercialization of UAM and providing policy support, and UAM that represents the world. We plan to continue our efforts to become a leading city, Seoul.”
