In the event of a supply/demand emergency, remote control of lights and air conditioners... “The whole nation needs to participate in energy saving”

If you install a remote control smart device at home or in a small store and participate in the energy saving program, you can receive a reward of 1 won per kWh.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on the 2nd that it held a meeting with related organizations for the 'Auto DR' demonstration project, presided over by Cheon Yeong-gil, head of the Energy Policy Office.

At the meeting, MOTIE, related organizations, experts, and the industry shared the results of the Auto DR demonstration project for convenience stores and discussed future expansion directions.

'Auto DR' refers to a technology that automatically participates when public DR is issued by using smart devices such as lighting and air conditioners that can be remotely controlled.

National DR is a demand response system that allows small electricity users such as households and small stores to participate in energy saving programs by using smart devices such as lighting and air conditioners.

▲ In case of an emergency supply and demand ▲ In case of fine dust warning ▲ In case of abnormal temperature ▲ In case of insufficient supply reserve, the Korea Power Exchange issues a national DR, and at this time, if you reduce power consumption, you will be compensated.

For example, if DR is triggered at the power exchange when a supply/demand emergency is expected, unnecessary lights and air conditioners can be adjusted remotely using smart devices.

MOTIE conducted an empirical test on public rental housing last year to verify the effectiveness of Auto DR, and confirmed the effect of increasing the participation rate by 6%p and the amount of reduction by 24% compared to the existing method.

Accordingly, it is currently promoting the expansion of infrastructure such as smart devices in public rental housing.

In addition, this year, it is promoting demonstration projects for commercial facilities, starting with 4 convenience stores directly managed by CU and 1 GS The Fresh. If the effect is verified, it will be gradually expanded to stores operated by general convenience store owners.

Chief Cheon said, "With the recent electricity price hike, the public's interest and participation in energy conservation is desperately needed."
