On the 9th, Pohang City held a completion ceremony for the smart green city clean road system in the steel industrial complex in Nam-gu, attended by about 100 people, including private environmental groups, executives and employees of companies located in the steel industrial complex, and public officials.
The city was selected for the Ministry of Environment Green New Deal Smart Green City Competition in 2020 and secured a total of 20 billion won for the project, and installed a clean road system in the 1.2km section from the Samgeori of the Steel Management Corporation to the Samgeori of Daedong Steel to reduce fine dust on the road and mitigate the heat wave and heat island phenomenon to create a clean environment within the old steel industrial complex.
Major facilities include △ 360 sets of 325-degree floor nozzles (automatic watering facilities) △ pump station △ storage tank △ notification display board △ remote control system on the median strip of the road.
Ko Won-hak, director of the Environment Bureau, said, "There is a lot of fine dust generated on the roads due to the large number of vehicles operating in the Steel Industrial Complex. We expect that this clean road will help to reduce fine dust and solve various environmental problems."
