On the 26th, Jeollanam-do started to nurture future strategic industries in earnest by signing an investment agreement with the Seo Jae-pil Office of the Provincial Government Office to build a 3㎡ cloud data center in Nam-myeon, Jangseong.

This agreement is the first case in which the data center decentralization policy of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy has been realized. It is expected to be a cornerstone for cloud-based artificial intelligence (AI) and data industry ecosystems.

The ceremony was attended by Kim Yeong-rok, Governor of South Jeolla Province, Cheon Young-gil, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, Energy Policy Director, Jangseong-gun Governor Kim Han-jong, KEPCO Gwangju-Jeonnam Headquarters Kang Yoo-won, Bae Myung-jin, Vice President of Kakao Enterprise Co., Ltd., Kim Chang-ho, CEO of Fine & Partners Asset Management, and Moon Seong-cheol, executive director of KB Securities.

At the agreement ceremony, which was followed by briefing on investment in the data center by Fine & Partners Asset Management and signing the agreement, Fine & Partners Asset Management and KB Securities announced plans to invest 4 billion won in Jangseong to build a cloud data center by 900 and hire 2026 new people. Kakao Enterprise Co., Ltd. participates in design, infrastructure construction and overall operation.

Jeollanam-do, Jangseong-gun, Kakao Enterprise, Fine & Partners Asset Management, and KB Securities plan to nurture the data industry, such as artificial intelligence, big data, and 5G, as future new growth engine industries in Jeollanam-do with the attraction of the cloud data center.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and KEPCO's Gwangju and Jeonnam Headquarters apply a special case for a power supply plan that supports backup power when building a data center as part of a data center regional dispersal policy.

"We welcome the establishment of the Jangseong-gun data center, and the government plans to spare no policy support so that the data center, which is a facility that consumes electricity, is distributed to areas with surplus power," said Cheon Young-gil, head of the department.

Vice President Bae Myung-jin said, “As a cloud company, we will actively cooperate with Jeonnam-do in building a data center so that the data center regional distribution policy can be successfully implemented.”

Governor Kim Han-jong said, "I wholeheartedly welcome the establishment of the data center in Jangseong-gun, which lays the foundation for the national new growth industry, along with 5 county residents."

Governor Kim Young-rok said, “The cloud data center built together with Kakao Enterprise, Fine & Partners Asset Management, and KB Securities, which are leaders in the information and communication technology (IT) industry, will lead the future strategic industry as it enters Jangseong.”
