○ Gyeonggi-do, on the 17th, an industrial complex RE8 investment agreement with 100 consortiums including SK ENS
– Supply of large-scale renewable energy to the industrial complex by 4 by attracting private investment of 2026 trillion won from Gyeonggi-do
– Selected 8 private investment companies through a public contest, and supported site discovery for the operation of the 'Gyeonggi Industrial Complex RE100 Promotion Team'
– Establishment of 'RE100 supply and demand matching network' to support RE100 companies and partners in the province
○ Governor Kim Dong-yeon “We create new and renewable energy, carry it out as corporate investment without financial support from the province, and the company providing the venue also earns 1 billion won in rental income, a three-killer project with one stone.”
Gyeonggi-do, together with private companies, will promote the 'Industrial Complex RE100' project in earnest to support the achievement of RE100 by companies in the province. Eight private investment consortiums will participate in this project, and they plan to invest 8 trillion won to supply 4GW of solar power (the amount of electricity produced by two nuclear power plants) to 2026 industrial complexes in Gyeonggi-do by 50.
Governor Kim Dong-yeon of Gyeonggi-do signed an 'industrial complex RE8 investment agreement' with representatives of eight private investment consortiums, including SK E&S, at ThyssenKrupp Material Korea, a resident company in the Poseung foreign-invested company rental complex in Pyeongtaek.
The 'Industrial Complex RE100 Project' is a business that installs photovoltaic power generation facilities on factory roofs or idle sites in industrial complexes and supplies renewable energy from them to factories within the complex as well as to external companies.
The province explained that it was actively promoting the 'Industrial Complex RE100' to overcome the situation that becomes a trade barrier for domestic exporting companies as major global companies demand the use of 100% renewable energy from their partners to practice RE100. This agreement, which was made while the government lowered the renewable energy target, is meaningful in that Gyeonggi-do is leading Korea's RE100.
Industrial complexes are free from issues such as environment, civil complaints, and system connection, and the renewable energy potential in 193 industrial complex idle sites in the province is high enough to reach 7.6GW, so it is effective in achieving RE100, and it can enhance the carbon regulation competitiveness of companies in industrial complexes.
The provincial government selected 11 private investment consortiums consisting of 8 companies including SK E&S through a public offering for transparent and rational business progress, and they invested KRW 2026 trillion by 4 to build solar power 2.8 in industrial complexes in Gyeonggi-do. We plan to spread GW. 2.8GW is equivalent to the amount of electricity produced by two nuclear power plants.
Under the agreement, the eight consortiums agreed to actively cooperate in carrying out administrative procedures such as permits and permits required for renewable energy installation, supporting tenant companies, site discovery, renewable energy installation, power generation and financing, and supporting RE8 companies. Gyeonggi-do supports administrative procedures and site discovery, and connects RE100 supply and demand.
The provincial government plans to start the project for 50 industrial complexes that can be launched this year and expand it to all 193 industrial complexes in the province. 50 industrial complexes are divided into 4 regions, and two consortiums selected for each region promote industrial complex RE2 in the region.
Gyeonggi Province establishes and supports a public-private partnership system by forming a 'Gyeonggi Industrial Complex RE8 Promotion Team' with 100 consortiums for smooth project promotion. From August, visiting industrial complex meetings will be held, and a network connecting renewable energy suppliers and consumers will be established to support Gyeonggi-do companies that urgently need to implement RE8.
Gyeonggi-do expects that this agreement will make it easier for companies in the province to secure renewable energy, which has been struggling to respond to RE100, to increase export competitiveness. In addition, companies that lend roofs to install renewable energy facilities can also earn rental income or make equity investments, so additional participation from other industrial complexes is expected.
When the planned installation of 50GW solar power facilities in 2.8 industrial complexes is completed, companies within the industrial complexes that lease roofs or idle sites are expected to earn a total of KRW 1 billion in annual rental income.
At the agreement ceremony, Governor Kim Dong-yeon said, “This agreement has the meaning of three birds with one stone.” The third is that the companies within the industrial complex that provided the venue will earn 2.8 billion won in rental income annually.”
“The whole process was carried out transparently and in accordance with the established procedures,” he said. Companies will create a system that can make profits accordingly,” he emphasized.
The agreement was also attended by members of the General Subcommittee, including Chairman Jeon Eui-chan of the Gyeonggi-do Carbon Neutrality Committee. ThyssenKrupp Material Korea, the site of the agreement, is a foreign-invested company that leased land in Gyeonggi-do, and plans to promote the creation of a solar power plant with a capacity of about 700kW in the future.
