– Held in Washington DC starting September 9th… Strengthening cooperation, including revising the memorandum of cooperation between the two countries

□ Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport (Minister Won Hee-ryong) held the '9th Korea-US Automobile Safety Cooperation Meeting' with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in Washington, DC, USA for two days starting from Tuesday, September 19th. It is held.

 

ㅇ The Korea-US Automotive Safety Cooperation Meeting has been held alternately in both countries every year since 2005 to share major policies in the automobile sector and strengthen bilateral cooperation. It is a meeting to discuss current issues and matters of interest for the development of the systems of both countries.

 

□ At this cooperation meeting, the two countries plan to announce major automobile policies such as new vehicle safety evaluation, recall and defect investigation, international harmonization of safety standards, eco-friendly vehicles, and autonomous driving, and share and discuss the current policy status and future plans of both countries.

 

ㅇ In particular, as the Automobile Management Act, which certifies the safety of core devices of electric vehicles such as batteries, was revised and promulgated last August, we plan to also share specific procedures and contents of related content that vehicle manufacturers will be subject to in the future.

 

ㅇ In addition, the two countries will visit crash and driving test and research institutes in the United States to discuss ways to strengthen vehicle production safety and ensure consumer safety in both countries.

 

□ With this meeting, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport and NHTSA will also pursue revision of the memorandum of cooperation between the two countries. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport signed a memorandum of cooperation with NHTSA in 06 and has been cooperating in areas such as automobile technical regulations, recall system, and new car evaluation.

 

ㅇ This memorandum of cooperation expands the areas of cooperation between the two countries to include eco-friendly vehicles and autonomous driving policies, defect investigations, and automobile safety-related research and development. Through this, the two countries plan to continue cooperation in more diverse fields.

 

□ The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport announced that it expects that the two countries will continue to strengthen their cooperative relationship in the overall automobile sector based on continued exchanges.
