Realizing Pohang as a safe, crime-free city by introducing intelligent video search based on innovative technology

On the 4th, Pohang City held an opening ceremony for the Intelligent Video Search Room, the main service of the 'Pohang City Smart City Challenge Project', at the Pohang Southern Police Station.

At the event, about 80 people, including public officials from related departments, Pohang Southern Police Station, POSCO Holdings and business participating companies, and citizen participation groups, participated, and the service was demonstrated after reporting progress and future utilization plans.

In addition, the current development and construction status of Pohang City, Pohang Southern Police Station, and POSCO Holdings were shared, and future utilization and advancement plans were discussed.

Meanwhile, Pohang City received 3 billion won in government funding through the 'Smart City Challenge Main Project', a public offering project hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport, in March last year, and has been promoting the project since August of last year.

In this project, which solves urban problems through collaboration between companies with excellent technology and local governments, the city has established eight services in four major areas: smart city safety, smart transportation, digital administrative innovation, and data hub, to achieve 'digitalization of the entire city'. We are pursuing the goal of creating a futuristic smart city.

Major services in the smart city safety field include smart control and intelligent video search services, and the search room at Pohang Southern Police Station, where the opening ceremony was held on this day, is equipped with an intelligent video search service.

The intelligent video search service is based on AI video recognition technology and deep learning learning technology, and when a violent incident such as the disappearance or kidnapping of an elderly person with dementia occurs, it can quickly search a large amount of CCTV stored video to secure golden time to solve the case.

In addition, the smart control system introduced at the city's integrated control center is a service that dramatically improves control efficiency and first responder ability by detecting and selectively displaying movements expected to be signs of crime, such as violence and loitering, in real time. Overcome the weaknesses of dependent control and increase control efficiency by setting control scenarios by time, location, and situation.

Pohang City has applied the service to a total of 4,500 crime prevention CCTVs at the integrated control center, and plans to continue expanding it to newly built CCTVs in the future.

Pohang City Vice Mayor Kim Nam-il said, “We plan to continue collaborating with the Pohang South and North Police Stations under the common goal of citizen safety,” and added, “We will do our best to realize a smart safe city based on cutting-edge technology.”
