Gyeongsangnam-do Governor Choi Man-rim said at the 16th Yeongnam Area Future Development Council held in Busan on the 4th, “The five cities and provinces in the Yeongnam area must actively cooperate in responding to concentration in the metropolitan area and regional extinction.”
On this day, the council was attended by Choi Man-rim, the administrative governor of South Gyeongsang Province, Lee Seong-kwon, Deputy Mayor of Economic Affairs of Busan Metropolitan City, Jang-soo Jeong, Deputy Mayor of Economic Affairs of Daegu Metropolitan City, Hyo-dae Ahn, Deputy Mayor of Economic Affairs of Ulsan Metropolitan City, and Hak-hong Kim, Executive Governor of Gyeongsangbuk-do Province, as well as vice heads of five cities and provinces in the Yeongnam region.
At the council, the vice-presidents of the five cities and provinces discussed the development direction of the Yeongnam region and agreed to continue to actively cooperate in the joint development of the Yeongnam region. In addition, along with the revision of the “Yeongnam Area Future Development Council Operating Rules,” Daegu Metropolitan City was appointed as the next council president.
Meanwhile, at the 2023 Yeongnam Future Forum hosted by Kookmin Ilbo after the Yeongnam Region Future Development Council, starting with an opening speech by Shin Jong-soo, editor of Kookmin Ilbo, a keynote speech by Woo Dong-ki, chairman of the Local Era Committee, and a 'Win-Win Cooperation, Republic of Korea' chaired by Kim Hyun-soo, professor of urban planning and real estate at Dankook University. A discussion on the topic ‘This is the future of’ followed.
The meeting consisted of questions and answers with the vice-presidents of five cities and provinces in the Yeongnam region appearing on a panel to discuss regional crisis diagnoses and strategies to drive regional development through designation of special opportunity development zones.
The '2023 Yeongnam Future Forum' was also broadcast live on Kookmin Ilbo's YouTube channel.
