Governor Kim Tae-heum, who is visiting Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) to share the province's leading policy for achieving carbon neutrality with the world and expand international cooperation, attended the opening ceremony of the Local Government Climate Action Summit held at Dubai Expo City Blue Zone on the 1st (local time). attended.

 

The Local Government Climate Action Summit emphasizes the roles and responsibilities of local governments around the world and the importance of cooperation between national and local governments, and is held in conjunction with the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) and Bloomberg to capture the voices of local governments. It was put together by a charity organization.

 

The key topics of the meeting are four: regional climate finance innovation, regional contribution and integration to strengthen global action, regional energy transition, and strengthening regional resilience and adaptation.

 

At the event, representatives from 12 local governments around the world, including Governor Kim, UN Secretary-General Antonio Gutheus, UN Special Envoy for Climate Change Michael Bloomberg, an American businessman and politician who served as mayor of New York, COP28 Chairman Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, and US Special Envoy for Climate Change John Kerry. COP is an international conference where heads of state, ministers, local government representatives, climate activists, civil society representatives, and corporate CEOs from around the world gather every year to discuss ways to respond to the climate crisis. This year, the 28th, it will be held in Dubai on the 30th of last month. It will be open for 12 days until the 13th.

At COP28, the results of the 'Global Paris Agreement Implementation Check (GST)' will be revealed for the first time, and details on the size, creation, and operation method of the 'Loss and Damage Fund', an international fund to support developing countries affected by the climate crisis, will be revealed for the first time.
