Seongnam City (Mayor Shin Sang-jin) obtained smart city certification in the large city category in the ‘2023 Smart City Certification’ contest hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport.
The Smart City Certification System is a system established from 2021 to systematically diagnose the level of smartization of domestic cities and provide certification to excellent smart cities to support their expansion domestically and internationally. Evaluation and certification are conducted by classifying local governments into large cities (more than 50 people) and small and medium-sized cities (less than 50 people).
Seongnam City received high scores in all three evaluation criteria: innovation, governance/system, and service technology/infrastructure. In terms of innovation, the number of venture companies and living lab operations were evaluated well, and in terms of governance and systems, the signing of smart city MOUs with various organizations was evaluated well.
In particular, in the service technology and infrastructure sector, ▲drone demonstration city construction project ▲intelligent transportation system (ITS) advancement ▲life safety CCTV intelligent screening control ▲smart care for seniors living alone ▲artificial intelligence civil complaint information service ▲public Wi-Fi expansion were recognized as major achievements. .
The city plans to hold an unveiling ceremony for a smart city certification signboard in the future and promote Seongnam City's smart city service achievements in various ways domestically and internationally.
An official from Seongnam City said, “Through this smart city certification, we will focus more on making Seongnam a special city for the fourth industrial revolution in Korea and put more effort into discovering smart city services that citizens need.”
