– After the ‘Seoul Declaration’ at ‘FOSS4G Asia 2023’, the establishment of an international cooperation council with the UN Secretariat and OSGeo will be promoted in January next year.

– ‘FOSS4G Asia 2023’, participation of over 27 experts from 600 countries… Successful hosting serves as a bridge to establish a consultative body

– The city is expected to lead development and become an international spatial information hub by establishing a cooperation system and virtuous cycle of spatial information technology.

□ Starting with the ‘Seoul Declaration’ announced at the ‘FOSS1G Asia 4’ competition on Friday, December 2023, Seoul City will lead the international introduction and utilization of spatial information technology and services in January 24. From now on, we will begin in earnest to establish an open space technology international cooperation council to support cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region.

□ Although Seoul City possesses excellent spatial information technology and data, international activities have been difficult due to the lack of an international cooperation system. In order to overcome these limitations, we actively hosted the ‘FOSS4G Asia 2023’ international competition, and held the largest event with over 27 participants from 600 countries around the world at the end of November, effectively serving as a bridge to advance spatial information capabilities into the world.

○ In order to maximize the effect of the event, the international conference period was designated as 'Asia Geospatial Week', and companies, researchers, and students interested in spatial information participated, such as the Seoul Urban Geospatial Information Forum and the Korean Geospatial Information Society conference. The event was held simultaneously.

○ ▲28th, Technology Workshop ▲29th, Opening Ceremony and Keynote Speech·Seoul Urban Spatial Information Forum·UN Open GIS Workshop ▲30th, Korean Spatial Information Society Academic Conference ▲1st, UN-Habitat Seminar·Closing Ceremony ( 'Seoul Declaration' announced) ▲In addition to the main presentation programs such as the community sprint on the 2nd, various side events such as digital spatial information contest, corporate exhibition, poster session, and dinner social event were also held for overseas participants.

□ Meanwhile, at the 'FOSS6G 4 Prizern' world conference at the end of June, the city of Seoul held a practical meeting with the UN Headquarters, the Japanese government (National Geography Institute), and the OSGeo Foundation on cooperation and support measures using spatial information for urban and climate issues in the Asia-Pacific region. The organization structure was discussed.

□ Accordingly, since last September, we have formed a promotion committee with the Seoul Institute to prepare a plan for establishing an international cooperation system, and are preparing to establish a consultative body to achieve the goal of establishing an open spatial information ecosystem set in the ‘Seoul Declaration’.

○ The international cooperation council (tentative name Seoul Open GeoTech Initiative) is ▲globally disseminating open spatial information software ▲opening open spatial information public data ▲establishing a reference site for open spatial information standards ▲operating an education center to strengthen capabilities in open spatial information technology ▲open spatial information The goal is to support international community activities.

□ In the future, Seoul City will cooperate with the UN Open GIS Initiative, the OSGeo Foundation, and OGC to select promising areas for cooperation through FOSS4G among pending issues in the Asia-Pacific region and all UN sustainability goal tasks and promote cooperation between international organizations (institutions). We plan to establish a cooperation system and develop into an open spatial information hub.

□ Kim Jin-man, Director of Digital Policy at the Seoul Metropolitan Government, said, “The ‘Seoul Declaration’ of ‘FOSS4G Asia 2023’ is a new start that can build a foundation for cooperation and innovation in the field of open spatial information and lead to sustainable growth in the Asia-Pacific region, and in the future, Seoul will “We will lead humanitarian activities and sustainable growth through open spatial information technology and data support through a global network interconnected with international organizations (agencies),” he said.
