In order to strengthen international exchange and attract investment, Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon, who is attending the World Economic Forum (Davos Forum), agreed with the World Economic Forum to establish a Fourth Industrial Revolution Center in Gyeonggi Province.

 

Governor Kim Dong-yeon signed a business agreement with World Economic Forum Chairman Børge Brende to establish the Fourth Industrial Revolution Center at the Congress Center in Davos, Switzerland, at 15 p.m. on the 3th, local time.

 

In his greeting, Governor Kim Dong-yeon said, “Six years ago, I met with Chairman Klaus Schwab to discuss the establishment of the 6th Industrial Revolution Center, and I am glad to be able to keep that promise as the governor of Gyeonggi Province.” He added, “It will become a center that represents not only Gyeonggi Province, but also Korea.” “He said.

 

While Governor Kim was serving as Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs in 2018, he met with Schwab, Chairman of the World Economic Forum, and exchanged opinions on the establishment of the Fourth Industrial Revolution Center in Korea and the advancement of Korean youth to the World Economic Forum.

 

The 4th Industrial Revolution Center that Gyeonggi Province is planning to establish has been tentatively named 'Korea Innovation Center for Humans and Earth'.

 

Governor Kim said, “The name of the center is to emphasize the human-centered aspect of technological development and the will to solve ecological challenges such as the climate crisis.” He added, “The center will focus on three areas: climate change, smart manufacturing, and startups. “In particular, startups are an area that is not focused on by the other 3 centers, so we are keeping our election pledge to make Gyeonggi-do a startup paradise.”

 

He continued, “We will strive to operate more sustainably through the participation of not only the private sector but also academia, including universities,” and added, “The center will serve as a foundation for Korea, which achieved miracles in the era of industrialization, to achieve another miracle in the era of transition and actively respond to global challenges.” “It will be this,” he emphasized.

 

Borge Brende, Chairman of the World Economic Forum, responded, “Gyeonggi-do is making an operation plan for the center in an appropriate and correct direction,” and added, “I hope that the establishment of the Fourth Industrial Revolution Center will lead to more cooperation with Gyeonggi-do.”

 

He added, “We are making plans to visit Korea in March,” adding, “Let’s continue to expand cooperation not only with the center but also with Gyeonggi Province in more fields.”
