– Plan to supply ‘running air purifiers’, including 125 hydrogen cars and 32 hydrogen buses this year
– 3,250 million won subsidy when purchasing a hydrogen car… Tax reduction and public parking discount benefits provided
– Continuous expansion of hydrogen charging stations and hydrogen fuel cell power plants… City “We will leap forward as a leading hydrogen mobility city”
Goyang Special City (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) is working to build hydrogen infrastructure by expanding the supply of eco-friendly hydrogen vehicles and increasing hydrogen charging stations and hydrogen fuel cell power plants.
Goyang Special Mayor Lee Dong-hwan said, “As hydrogen is attracting attention as an energy source that will change the future, Goyang City will also accelerate the creation of a hydrogen ecosystem and create a healthy and clean city that citizens can experience.”
First hydrogen bus introduced this year… 2030 hydrogen buses expected to be supplied by 300
Hydrogen cars are called air purifiers that use electrical energy created by combining hydrogen and atmospheric oxygen as power, producing clean water instead of exhaust gases. Unlike internal combustion engine vehicles, it is an eco-friendly vehicle that does not produce pollutants such as fine dust or carbon dioxide, and is equipped with a high-performance air purification filter that filters out even ultrafine dust.
The government has a goal of expanding the proportion of new car sales of eco-friendly cars such as electric cars and hydrogen cars to 33% in accordance with the carbon neutral green growth plan. Goyang City has also been providing subsidies for the purchase of hydrogen cars since 2019, and despite rising vehicle installment interest rates and a lack of hydrogen charging stations, it has supplied a total of 80 units, an average of 375 units per year, until last year.
This year, various benefits are provided, including a 3,250 million won subsidy for the purchase of a hydrogen car, a 140 million won reduction in employment registration tax, and a 50% discount on parking fees at public parking lots. This year, with a total budget of 142 billion won, we plan to supply 125 hydrogen passenger cars and 32 hydrogen buses, including metropolitan buses and village buses.
In particular, starting this year, the number of hydrogen buses in addition to electric buses will be sequentially increased in Goyang City's public buses, which have about 1,000 units. With a budget of approximately 1,050 billion won, the plan is to supply 2024 vehicles by 32, including 2025 in 35, 2026 in 30, 2027 in 40, and 2030 in 300. Assuming that a hydrogen-electric city bus runs 8 km per year, it is known that enough clean air is created for 6,000 adults to drink for a year.
Meanwhile, vehicles of city hall and other affiliated organizations will be sequentially converted to electric and hydrogen vehicles, and a certain percentage of public vehicle purchases will be hydrogen vehicles. In addition, the plan is to request cooperation from local public institutions in converting to hydrogen vehicles.
Plans to expand up to 5 hydrogen charging stations this year... Solving charging problems through continuous construction
In Goyang City, there are two hydrogen charging stations that supply fuel to hydrogen cars, including Deokeun-dong and Wondang-dong. The liquefied hydrogen charging station, which will be installed at the Daehwa Bus Public Garage this year, will be invested with a total of 2 billion won, including 70 billion won in national funds and 40 billion won by SK E&S, and Goyang City will provide the site for the charging station. In addition, three additional hydrogen charging stations are scheduled to be built, including two opened by private companies.
If five hydrogen charging stations are secured within this year, 5 hydrogen passenger cars and 1,200 hydrogen buses can be charged each day, which is expected to solve the charging problem, which is the biggest obstacle to purchasing hydrogen cars.
Additionally, we plan to install four hydrogen charging stations at the Wondang Bus Public Garage by 2026. Accordingly, the city is expected to have the capacity to charge 4 hydrogen cars and 6 hydrogen buses per day based on six hydrogen charging stations.
‘Achievement in becoming an energy self-sufficient city’ due to expansion of hydrogen fuel cell power plants
Hydrogen fuel cell power plants produce electricity through the reaction of hydrogen and oxygen, and are known as an eco-friendly power generation method that does not generate air pollutants such as nitrogen oxides (NOx), sulfur oxides (SOx), and dust. In Goyang City, a 2018MW (megawatt) hydrogen fuel cell power plant established by Korea East-West Power has been in operation since 5.3.
This year, two small-scale hydrogen fuel cell power plants, including a 330kW (kilowatt) class in Jungsan-dong and a 450kW (kilowatt) class in Daeja-dong, are scheduled to be built using closed gas stations through private investment, which can supply electricity to about 2 households. all. In addition, the construction of 700MW (megawatt) class and 2026MW (megawatt) class hydrogen fuel cell power plants is being promoted in 10, which is expected to produce electricity to supply to 30 households along with city gas supply.
In addition, plans are being made to establish a 40MW (megawatt) hydrogen fuel cell power plant in the proposed free economic zone. Goyang City is accelerating its efforts to create an energy-sufficient city with the goal of expanding six hydrogen fuel cell power plants by 2030. end.
