In Gyeongsangbuk-do, Gyeongsan City and Uiseong-gun were finally selected for the '2024 Smart City Creation Project' hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport, securing 2026 billion won in national funds until 93.
The smart city creation project is a sustainable coexistence that the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport uses ICT to solve various urban problems such as traffic, environment, and safety, and also secures the ability to respond to environmental changes such as climate crisis and regional extinction. It is a project to create a city.
A contest was held for the project in three areas: base type, small-scale project, and solution expansion. In Gyeongsangbuk-do, two final sites were selected, including one small-scale project (3 applications) and one solution expansion project (1 applications).
Gyeongsan City, which was finally selected as a small and strong city, has secured a total project cost of 191 billion won (80 billion national budget, 104 billion won local budget, and 7 million won private budget) and will begin construction in the second half of this year.
In order to solve the problem of local economic decline due to a decline in the youth population, Gyeongsan City will create a city to revitalize data-based high-tech industries by linking and utilizing existing urban infrastructure (Gyeongsan Imdang Unicorn Park, Youth Knowledge Playground, etc.).
We plan to lay the foundation for new business jobs by building services in which young people and citizens participate, such as AI mobility, smart media city art solutions, youth entrepreneurship smart platform, and data eco-chain platform.
Meanwhile, Uiseong-gun, which was finally selected for the smart city solution expansion project in May, invested a total project cost of 5 billion (25 billion in national funds and 12.5 in local funds) to build a detailed care system by applying smart healthcare for the elderly population and AI care system for single-person households. and create a safe urban environment by building smart crosswalks, smart poles, road hazard detection (black ice, etc.), and a smart city integrated platform.
In addition, Gyeongbuk Province plans to activate the smart city platform by linking the metropolitan data hub currently under construction with the smart city creation project to discover and provide smart services that residents can experience.
We will spare no effort in providing administrative and financial support to help the newly selected cities of Gyeongsan City and Uiseong-gun successfully create smart cities, and we plan to continue efforts to promote smart city development projects in more regions of the province.
Lee Jeong-woo, director of the Metaverse Science Department, said, “This achievement is the result of the joint efforts of the province and city and county to create a smart city, and is significant in that it has laid the foundation for the city and county in the province to grow together.” He added, “We will continue to build a sustainable smart city in the future.” “We will do our best to create it,” he said.
