– On the 30th (Tuesday), business agreements were signed with 4 companies to install various types of chargers specialized for demand.

– Hyundai Motor Company and Kia ‘ultra-fast charger’, LG Electronics and Doosan Robotics ‘robot fast charger’ built

– LS E-Link, ‘ceiling charging gun’ in bus garage… City: “We will create a convenient environment for using electric vehicles”

□ Seoul City has signed business agreements with four private companies with technology in the electric vehicle field and will begin expanding the electric vehicle charging infrastructure. Through the agreement, the city will provide administrative support, such as finding sites for charger installation, and the company will share roles, such as installing and operating demand-responsive charging facilities with its own technology and capital.

○ The agreement ceremony was held at Seoul City Hall (Seosomun Building Building 30) at 10:20 am on the 1th (Tuesday) with Yeo Jang-kwon, Head of Climate and Environment Division, and officials from Hyundai Motor Company, Kia, LG Electronics, Doosan Robotics, and LS E-Link. It is held in attendance.

□ Despite the high penetration rate of chargers, the city collected opinions that use was still inconvenient due to long waiting times, the weight of charging cables, and uniform charger types, so it joined hands with private companies to develop ▴ultra-fast charging stations ▴robot chargers ▴ceiling-type charging guns, etc. We decided to install various types of chargers.

○ As of the end of June, there are about 6 chargers installed in Seoul, and considering that there are 5 electric vehicles registered in the city, there are 6 cars (car charging ratio) per charger. Considering that the world's average charging rate is about 7 units per vehicle, the penetration rate of electric vehicle chargers in Seoul can be said to be high.

○ So far, the city has focused on quantitative expansion of chargers to expand the distribution of electric vehicles and improve the convenience of citizens, but in the future, it plans to also seek qualitative improvement by increasing the installation of chargers specialized for needs such as fast charging and assistance for the transportation vulnerable.

□ First, Hyundai Motor Company and Kia shortened charging waiting time by building 350 to 4 6kW ultra-fast chargers using E-pit, an electric vehicle charging station brand, while LG Electronics and Doosan Robotics installed robots in self-produced fast chargers. We plan to build and operate a charging system for the transportation vulnerable.

○ Currently, a total of 9 E-pit charging stations (44 units) of Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Motors are in operation in Seoul.

○ LG Electronics and Doosan Robotics plan to first install 4 chargers (including 1 robot) at the Mapo City Silver Care Center and then install more than 26 chargers, including 10 robots, by 50.

□ In addition, LS E-link supplies ‘ceiling charging guns’, a smart charger, to places where charging is limited by space and time, such as bus garages. They plan to pilot install chargers exclusively for Seoul Tour Buses, which will be converted to electric vehicles in 25, and to install about 26 chargers in bus garages by 50.

□ The city of Seoul plans to provide full administrative support, including site discovery, so that these companies can smoothly install chargers. So far, the city has invested the city budget to install chargers directly or provided subsidies to private companies, but the city plans to focus its efforts on building charging infrastructure with private capital in the future.

○ By sharing roles between the city and private companies, companies can contribute to the local community and the city can expect to reduce the budget needed to build charging infrastructure.

□ Yeo Jang-kwon, head of the Climate and Environment Division of the Seoul Metropolitan Government, said, “Through cooperation with this company, we expect that chargers with the latest technology will be installed in places where they are needed in various types, creating a more convenient environment for using electric vehicles.” He added, “In the future, the distribution of eco-friendly electric vehicles will increase.” “We will continue to cooperate with the private sector to further expand,” he said.
