– Start of development of standard design for sustainable smart bus stop (shelter) –

– Enhancing a pleasant city image and enhancing citizen convenience by securing city-level unity –

Incheon Metropolitan City announced that it will develop a standard design for a smart bus stop (shelter)* that reflects Incheon City’s unique characteristics in order to achieve harmony with local facilities, enhance a pleasant city image, and improve citizen convenience.

* Refers to a bus stop equipped with various amenities such as heated and cooled seats, heating and cooling systems, air purifiers, BIT (bus stop information terminals), and mobile phone chargers.

In the meantime, the need for uniformity has been raised due to different designs for each installation agency or department, and problems with management and operating costs after installation have also arisen.

To address this, Incheon City is currently carrying out a service to develop a standard design for smart bus stops, which is scheduled to be completed by the end of December 2024. As of the end of July, smart bus stops have been installed in a total of 7 locations, including 8 locations in Seo-gu and 7 locations in Michuhol-gu.

The main contents of the service are ▲Investigation of the internal and external status of bus stops in Incheon City and other local governments and case analysis to derive best practices and analyze applicability ▲Derivation of design strategy and planning direction ▲Derivation of a plan for a smart bus stop (shelter) model ▲Implementation of administrative procedures for protection of design intellectual property rights and rightsization, etc.

Kim In-soo, the director of the city’s transportation bureau, said, “Through this project, we plan to develop a standard model for smart bus shelters, for which there is increasing demand from citizens. We will design them to blend in with the surrounding cityscape and actively consider sustainability and efficient operation,” adding, “We will continue to do our best to improve citizens’ convenience in using public transportation.”
