Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kang Ki-jung) held the opening ceremony of the '28 Korea Climate, Environment and Energy Expo' at the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center on the afternoon of the 2024th.
The opening ceremony was attended by Mayor Kang Ki-jeong, Gwangju City Council Speaker Shin Su-jeong, South Jeolla Province Deputy Governor Myeong Chang-hwan, Yeongsan River Basin Environmental Office Director Park Yeon-jae, and Gwangju City Council members Park Pil-soon, Choi Ji-hyeon, Park Mi-jeong, Seo Yong-gyu, Lee Myeong-no, Im Mi-ran, and Jeong Da-eun.
At the opening ceremony, the 'Eco-Friendly Flower Arrangement' performance attracted attention. Attendees celebrated the opening of the 2024 Korea Climate, Environment, and Energy Expo by placing small flower pots in the sculptures. The flower pots will be distributed to visitors to the exhibition hall later.
In particular, this exhibition was more meaningful because it operated an eco-friendly concept cafeteria called ‘Exhibition without Disposable Items.’ Various experiential programs were also prepared to expand citizen participation, such as making flower pots from waste plastic, environmental experience education, and upcycling products.
Mayor Kang Ki-jung of Gwangju said in his welcoming speech, “There are many challenges to responding to climate change,” and “I hope that the Climate, Environment, and Energy Expo will become a starting point for opening a new future for the Republic of Korea by gathering wisdom on climate technology such as renewable energy and carbon neutrality.”
After the opening ceremony, Mayor Kang visited the exhibition booths of Hanwha KDN, Incell, Dasco, Marine Energy, Korea Electric Power Corporation, POSCO, Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute, and Carbon Neutral Support Center to examine new technologies related to the environment and energy.
The '2024 Korea Climate, Environment and Energy Expo' is hosted by Gwangju City, South Jeolla Province, and Yeongsan River Basin Environmental Office and organized by Gwangju Tourism Organization.
This event, held under the slogan of 'ESG Together, KEET Participation', focuses on climate change response, eco-friendly energy transition, and sustainable development, and will provide an opportunity to encounter various technologies and policies encompassing the core elements of ESG: Environment, Social, and Governance.

In particular, unlike last year, the scope of participation has been expanded from an exhibition centered on public enterprises to include regional mid-sized enterprises, and new events such as an energy and climate forum, citizen participation events, and ESG leading exhibitions have been prepared. A total of 265 companies participated, showcasing the latest energy technologies and various environmental protection products.
