Strengthening safety at festivals and events by sharing real-time situation information with smart control and disaster situation rooms using drones
❑ Jeju Special Self-Governing Province is operating a disaster management system utilizing drones and disaster safety communication networks to strengthen safety management and disaster response capabilities at festivals and event sites.
❑ Jeju Island established a ‘Drone Video Real-Time Sharing System’ between the Drone Integrated Safety Control Center and the Disaster Situation Room operated by the Space Mobility Division this year. Through this, drones are actively being used for disaster prevention and response activities such as crowd management and searching for missing persons.
❑ In addition, at festival and event sites, the drone integrated safety control center, disaster situation room, related departments, autonomous police, and other related organizations operated a call group using disaster safety communication network* terminals to enhance situation response capabilities.
* A single nationwide wireless communication network (Ministry of the Interior and Safety) exclusively used by disaster-related organizations such as the police, coast guard, fire department, and local governments for disaster response work, and rapid sharing of disaster situations and joint response between departments and organizations through dedicated terminals for the disaster safety communication network
❑ This system has shown results in the 'Car-Free Street' walking event and the Jeju International Citrus Expo. The drone monitored the crowd and traffic conditions at the event site in real time and shared the situation through the disaster safety communication network, allowing the event to be completed without any safety accidents. Drones were also recently used in the search for missing persons in the Geumseongho sinking accident.
❍ As the 28th Southernmost Defense Festival to be held on the 24th is expected to have over 1000 spectators*, we plan to actively utilize drones, CCTV footage, and disaster safety communication networks to thoroughly manage safety accidents and crowd concentrations.
* When the maximum number of visitors (entrance) per moment (1 hour) during a festival or event is expected to exceed 1, drones, CCTV footage, and disaster safety communication networks will be utilized.
❑ Jeju Island Safety and Health Office Director Kang Dong-won said, “Prevention and rapid response have become more important in response to the complexity and diversification of disasters,” and “We will continue to expand the smart disaster management system to do our utmost to ensure the safety of Jeju residents.”
