Yeonmu-dong, where smart city-type urban regeneration project is underway, completes 'smart infrastructure construction project'

Suwon City (Mayor Lee Jae-jun) has completed a smart infrastructure construction project in the Yeonmu-dong area where the ‘Smart City-type Urban Regeneration Project’ is being carried out.

The smart infrastructure construction project is to create a pleasant and convenient urban environment by constructing IoT (Internet of Things) facilities that apply smart technology in the Yeonmu-dong urban regeneration project site.

Starting with the construction of a remote water metering system in 2020, 2021 mobile CCTVs were installed in 20 to monitor illegal dumping of waste.

In 2022, ▲smart bus stops (2 locations), ▲connected streetlights (40 locations), ▲river entrance barriers (5 locations), ▲fine dust traffic lights (4 locations), and ▲smart pergolas (4 locations) were installed, and in 2023, IoT high-beam lights (29 units) that project images on riverside walking paths and connected security lights (27 locations) were installed.

Last year, we completed the smart infrastructure construction project by building intersection notifications (8 locations), smart crosswalks (3 locations), public Wi-Fi (2 locations), intelligent CCTV (4 locations), and an artificial intelligence traffic safety system.

The 'AI Traffic Safety System' is a smart facility built with the participation and opinions of residents. It has played a role in activating the community and increasing resident satisfaction with the smart city-type urban regeneration project. Among the smart crosswalk facilities, the traffic signal auxiliary device is the first smart facility to be installed in Suwon City.

A Suwon City official said, “The smart infrastructure construction project has been completed, and various smart infrastructures have been built in the Yeonmu-dong urban regeneration project site,” adding, “Yeonmu-dong will become the foundation for Suwon City to develop into a smart city.”

Yeonmu-dong was selected as the target site for the '2019 Second Half Urban Regeneration New Deal Competition' hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport in October 2019. The project, which began in 2020, will be implemented in stages until 2025. In conjunction with the Yeonmu-dong urban regeneration project, ▲Yeonmu Village Hub Space Creation ▲Residential Environment Improvement ▲Village Environment Improvement Project ▲Community Activation Project, four smart city-type urban regeneration unit projects that reflect residents' needs will be implemented in parallel.
