– Focus on promoting 15-minute city pilot district project, carbon-neutral city management plan, bicycle activation project, etc. –

 

 Jeju Special Self-Governing Province plans to invest a total of KRW 2025 billion in the urban sector by 491 to create a “15-minute city of Jeju” that residents can feel and establish standards for a carbon-neutral urban management plan, and to make an all-out effort to “create a vibrant city of Jeju where residents can all prosper together.”

 

 Major investment projects in urban areas in 2025

 

❍ We will fully implement the second year of the Jeju 8-minute city pilot project, a key pledge of the 15th local government.

 

- 15 billion won will be invested in the construction of essential living facilities and improvement of accessibility in four 4-minute city pilot districts*.

– Major projects include the ‘Jeonnong-ro People-Centered Road Construction Project’, the ‘Pyoseon Library Function Activation Project’, and the ‘Bomok-dong Lifestyle Culture Complex Center Construction Project’.

 

– We plan to promote a project to improve the pedestrian environment and create smart bus stops to support improved accessibility for residents within the 15-minute city pilot district.

 

❍ In addition, we plan to establish standards for establishing carbon-neutral urban management plans in urban areas and promote institutional improvements to revitalize the local economy.

– In line with the ‘5 Carbon Neutral Vision’ announced in May of last year, we are establishing ‘Standards for Establishing Carbon Neutral Urban Management Plans in Urban Areas’, including the expansion of zero-energy buildings (ZEBs), utilization of distributed energy, and reduction of greenhouse gases.

- In addition, we plan to prepare institutional improvement measures such as relaxing the level of reconstruction and simplifying urban planning procedures to revitalize the Jeju region's economy.

 

❍ In addition, as a follow-up measure to the “Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Industrial Zone Basic Plan,” we plan to invest 3 million won to establish a district unit plan for the systematic management of the North China Industrial Zone.

 

❍ In order to ‘make Jeju a great place for cycling,’ we plan to invest 7 million won to establish a feasibility study and basic plan for building bicycle roads, hold nationwide bicycle usage promotion events, and provide subsidies for electric bicycle purchases, thereby expanding the role of bicycles as an eco-friendly means of transportation.

 

❍ In addition, 34 billion won will be invested in balanced development projects by region and township to reduce regional disparities, 18 billion won in urban regeneration projects to promote urban vitality, and 276 billion won in resolving long-term unimplemented urban planning facilities and improving urban residential environments.

 

 Lee Chang-min, head of the Jeju 15-minute City Promotion Team, said, “2025 will be an important year to successfully establish the 8-minute city pilot district project, a key pledge of the 15th local government, and to draw the future of a carbon-neutral city,” adding, “We will continue to pursue urban policies that qualitatively improve the lives of Jeju residents.”
