○ Securing public trust and promoting safe AI by registering and disclosing public AI services.
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 3rd that it will be the first in the nation to implement the 'Gyeonggi Province AI Registration System', which transparently discloses to residents the details of artificial intelligence (AI) projects promoted by public institutions.
The AI registration system is a system that discloses information on AI-utilizing services promoted by the public to alleviate the opacity and lack of trust in AI technology and ensure ethics and accountability.
The disclosure targets AI-based businesses operated by provincial governments, cities, counties, and public institutions, and the main items are ▲AI service name and operating organization ▲background and purpose of introduction ▲main functions and technology types ▲usage data and sources ▲AI algorithm and operating principles ▲performance and ethical considerations ▲whether or not personal information is processed.
The disclosed information can be found on the Gyeonggi Provincial Government website (gg.go.kr) from the second week of July under the ‘Communication/Participation → Sharing with Gyeonggi Province Residents → Gyeonggi Province AI Registration System’ menu.

Gyeonggi Province AI Bureau Director Kim Ki-byeong said, “As AI is expanding into an important administrative tool, it is very important to increase the public’s understanding and trust in AI used by the public.” He added, “Through the Gyeonggi Province AI registration system, we will strengthen the accountability and transparency of AI projects and contribute to creating an ethical AI ecosystem.”
Meanwhile, Gyeonggi Province is expanding the institutional foundation for safe use of artificial intelligence, including establishing the AI Bureau, the first AI-dedicated department in the country, and enacting the "Gyeonggi Province Ordinance on Establishing a Foundation for Artificial Intelligence Safety and Trust."
Ahead of the AI registration system, a comprehensive survey of AI business operations was conducted in May of this year, targeting Gyeonggi Province, its cities and counties, and its public institutions. In June, a dedicated website was established on the Gyeonggi Provincial Government website and a pilot program was completed. The website also features the "Declaration for the Development of Trustworthy AI," jointly announced by Gyeonggi Province and DETA (Delta for Advanced Technology), a global network of leading local governments, in August of last year. DETA includes 5 local governments around the world, including Gyeonggi Province, Quebec, Canada, Massachusetts, USA, and Scotland, UK.
