 Daegu Metropolitan City is actively pursuing the "Regional Specialized Manufacturing Data Activation Project," which was selected for a Ministry of SMEs and Startups contest last year, and is accelerating artificial intelligence (AI)-based smart manufacturing innovation in local manufacturing sites.

This project aims to systematically support the adoption and utilization of AI and manufacturing data by small and medium-sized manufacturing companies, thereby accelerating digital transformation in the field. In line with the "AI-based Smart Manufacturing Innovation 3.0 Strategy" announced by the government last year, this initiative is expected to fundamentally improve the constitution of the local manufacturing industry.

Daegu City will invest a total of 12 billion won over three years, starting in 2025, targeting companies in the machinery components and materials/parts sectors, a regional specialty industry. This investment will solidify the city's manufacturing data collection and management system and establish core infrastructure, including a manufacturing AI service platform that companies can easily utilize.

Additionally, we support the introduction and verification of AI solutions in collaboration with system integration (SI) companies, and also provide customized support services for companies, such as pre-consulting.

Last year, Daegu City established a data collection and management system as the foundation for building a manufacturing AI service platform. In collaboration with capable system integration (SI) companies like BigWave AI and IDB, the city developed customized AI solutions for process prediction, quality control, and equipment anomaly detection. These solutions were then supported by ten companies, including Sambo Motors, Sangsin Brake, and Korea OSG, to facilitate field implementation.

In addition, preliminary consulting was conducted for 26 companies, including Kyungchang Industry, Daesung Hi-Tech, and TEHN, that wish to introduce AI solutions, to improve manufacturing processes and conduct data analysis and diagnosis.

This year, we plan to fully launch the development of a manufacturing AI service platform and expand the number of companies supporting the introduction and demonstration of AI solutions to 12. We will also continue to provide pre-consulting to support companies in effectively utilizing AI technology in actual manufacturing settings.

Lee Yoon-jung, head of the Machinery and Robot Division of Daegu Metropolitan City, said, “Through this project, we will actively support local manufacturing companies to solve chronic problems in the manufacturing field, accelerate M.AX (manufacturing artificial intelligence transformation), and simultaneously increase productivity and competitiveness.” She added, “We will further expand support for companies with the goal of building a sustainable manufacturing industry ecosystem.”
