Commercialization of innovative technologies and services and application of special regulations for testing and demonstration support

Collect opinions by the 1st of next month… Apply for district designation and business plan approval

The Sejong Special Self-governing City (City Mayor Lee Chun-hee) promotes the designation of a smart regulatory innovation district to utilize the entire city as a test bed for free experimentation without restrictions.

The Smart Regulatory Innovation Zone is an area that can receive special regulatory exceptions to support commercialization, testing and demonstration of innovative technologies and services.

If designated as a smart regulatory innovation district, the private sector can apply for a smart innovation business or smart demonstration business plan and receive business approval to receive special exceptions for collective cancellation of regulations for up to 6 years (basic 4 years + extension 2 years).

Accordingly, a smart innovation project for commercialization of innovative technologies and services with proven safety can be implemented, and a smart demonstration project for testing and demonstration of innovative technologies and services that require additional verification of safety can be implemented.

The city plans to designate the entire city (465 km) as a smart regulatory innovation district, pre-demonstrate the core services of the national pilot smart city of smart cities, and introduce services without problems through discovery and resolution of problems.

The designation period of the smart regulatory innovation district is planned to request that it be maintained until the designation of the smart city national pilot smart city business is canceled, considering the connection with the Sejong 5-1 National Smart City project.

With the designation of the smart regulatory innovation district, the city plans to link eight smart demonstration business plans, including the demonstration project for the regulation sandbox activation project (7 projects) and national pilot smart city mobility service (1), which have been in progress since last year.

Prior to the application, the city collects citizen opinions through the City Hall website (www.sejong.go.kr) until the 2nd of next month to designate a smart regulatory innovation district and approve a smart demonstration business plan.

Then, after reviewing and reflecting the citizens’ opinions received, it plans to apply for district designation and business plan approval in May.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport will finalize the smart regulatory innovation district designation and smart demonstration project in July through consultations with related ministries and deliberation by the Smart City Committee.

“When designated as a smart regulatory innovation district, various collaborations between the private sector and the public in the smart field will be possible,” said Jang Min-ju, chief smart city manager. I will do my best. ”
