– Signed a cooperation agreement with Lotte Mart, the city council, and the city corporation to create an energy self-sufficient city
– Construction of a 2.5 MW solar power plant in the parking lot… Annual 3300 MWh electricity production
– Deputy Mayor Jo In-cheol “Expecting a successful model for building a citizen-participating energy power plant”

Gwangju Metropolitan City signed an agreement with Lotte Mart, Gwangju City Council, and Gwangju City Corporation to cooperate in the creation of a carbon-neutral energy self-sufficient city in the City Hall business room on the 2nd.

The agreement aims at mutual cooperation between the parties for the installation, operation, and management of solar power generation facilities at the Lotte Mart Gwangju World Cup branch and the upper parking lot of the World Cup Stadium, and cooperation for mutual sustainable growth such as greenhouse gas reduction.

On July 7, Lotte Group declared ESG management to solve the common era challenges of responding to climate change and building a sustainable ecosystem, and is promoting a step-by-step ESG strategy by setting goals to reduce carbon emissions and contribute to an eco-friendly environment.
※ ESG: A concept that encompasses environment (E), society (S), and governance (G), which are non-financial factors that affect corporate value and sustainable growth

As the agreement is signed, a solar power plant of about 7 MW will be built on 956 square meters of the 3 square meters parking lot at the Gwangju World Cup Stadium. The installation scale was set in consideration of the operation of the World Cup Stadium and the view of the stadium, with the goal of completion at the end of next year.

The 2.5 MW solar power generation facility produces 3300 MWh of electricity per year. This corresponds to the power that can be used by about 900 households for one year, and has the effect of reducing 1 tons of greenhouse gas per year.

In addition, when a solar power plant is installed in the parking lot of the World Cup Stadium, it is expected to provide the convenience of stadium and mart users by preventing the shading effect that lowers the temperature of hot summer vehicles and the accumulation of snow in winter.

Dae-jung Joo, head of Lotte Mart's sales division, said, "I am delighted to be able to contribute to Gwangju's energy independence and carbon dioxide reduction through this cooperation agreement."

In-cheol Jo, Deputy Mayor of Culture and Economy, said, “We expect this cooperation project to be a successful model for building the foundation for citizen participation in energy power plants. I will do it,” he said.

Meanwhile, Gwangju City, which aims to create a carbon-neutral energy self-sufficient city by 2045, has promoted a solar power supply project jointly with the public and private sectors. In recognition of this contribution, he received the Grand Prize at the 10rd Korea Solar League last month. <End>
