Gyeongsangbuk-do announced on the 3rd that it held a ceremony to launch the 'Jangyeongsil' ship dedicated for testing and evaluation and a completion ceremony for the 'Marine Equipment Test and Evaluation Center' together with Pohang and the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST) at Yeongil Bay Port and Yeongil Bay 3 Industrial Complex on the XNUMXrd.

About 70 people attended the inauguration ceremony, including Do-hyeong Koo, head of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries' Ocean Development Division, Seong-jo Kang, Governor of Gyeongbuk Province, Kang-deok Lee, Mayor of Pohang, Hee-su Kim, Vice-Chairman of the Provincial Council, Woong-seo Kim, President of Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology, and business representatives.

The Jang Yeongsil is a 230 ton (3000 t, 2954 m long) test and evaluation ship built by investing 75 billion won to carry marine equipment and underwater robots to the sea area of Korea to conduct performance tests and evaluations.

It is equipped with special equipment such as a lifting device (A- ) that can lift equipment weighing up to 60 tons and a dynamic positioning system to maintain the position of the ship even in waves of 2.5 m.

In addition, it is expected to attract investment from related companies as it is possible to test and evaluate most marine equipment and underwater robots developed in Korea in the deep sea of the east coast (up to 3000m) with a cable that can be put in water to a depth of 2985m.

In the meantime, expensive foreign ships have been leased to verify the real sea area of marine equipment and underwater robots.

With the introduction of this domestic-exclusive evaluation ship, import substitution effect of more than 112 billion won* per year and timely utilization are possible, thereby preparing a turning point for early commercialization by securing track records.
* Overseas ship rental fee calculation: 1 million won per day, 8-day rental per year

The completion ceremony of the 'Marine Equipment Test and Evaluation Center' was attended by about 50 people including administrative governor Kang Seong-jo, Pohang Mayor Lee Kang-deok, Vice Chairman Kim Hee-su, local provincial councilors and residents.

The Marine Equipment Test and Evaluation Center (hereinafter referred to as the 'Evaluation Center') was built on a three-story scale (with a total floor area of 30 m3) with an investment of KRW 889 billion to support Gyeongbuk Province and Pohang City to smoothly carry out the actual sea area test and evaluation of the Jangyeongsil.

The evaluation center is equipped with a laboratory for analyzing and evaluating the real sea test results collected from the Jangyeongsil, a repair room for inspecting and repairing marine equipment and robots, and a crane (45 tons).

It was built on a site adjacent to the Marine Robot Demonstration Center to enable smooth research and collaboration.

Meanwhile, there are excellent universities and research institutes in Pohang, such as POSTECH, Marine Robot Demonstration Center, and Korea Robot Convergence Research Institute.

Gyeongsangbuk-do has cooperated with research institutes for over 10 years, and over the past 1.5 years, URI-L (light work, 2,500 ton, 20 m), URI-R (heavy work, 2,500 ton, 32 m), URI-T (track-based, 500 tons, 3 m) are being developed, and demonstration and diffusion projects are underway.

In addition, in order to foster marine leisure equipment as a strategic industry, it will continue to promote follow-up projects such as the establishment of a real sea test site on the east coast of Gyeongsangbuk-do, standardization, and establishment of an accredited certification system.

Gyeongbuk Province Administrative Governor Kang Seong-jo said, “In the future, domestic companies and research institutes have laid the foundation for early commercialization by securing stable performance tests and evaluations and field application results. We will do our best to make the East Coast of Gyeongsangbuk-do into a center of marine robot and equipment industry by attracting companies,” he said.
