The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport announced that it would hold a briefing session on March 3 (Tuesday) to guide local governments across the country on the selection direction of this year's Intelligent Transportation System (ITS)* contest, selection targets, support scale and procedures, and to collect local opinions.

* ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems): A transportation system that efficiently manages traffic information with advanced transportation technology and improves traffic efficiency and safety through scientific and automated operation

This briefing session will be held online in accordance with the guidelines related to COVID-19, and approximately 100 people including representatives of metropolitan and basic local governments across the country will participate.

In the meantime, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport has supported the local government’s intelligent transportation system (ITS) construction project since 2009 to improve traffic management and communication of local governments and to disseminate tangible high-tech transportation services. A total of KRW 56 billion will be provided for various intelligent transportation system construction projects, such as traffic information collection and provision, a contingency control system using CCTV, smart intersections and crosswalks, and emergency vehicle priority signal systems.

For reference, a total of 54 local governments are currently providing advanced transportation services such as real-time traffic conditions and unexpected information to local residents through traffic information centers, but they are concentrated in special metropolitan cities and metropolitan areas, so the intelligent transportation system (ITS) is There is a need to build and spread.

Accordingly, from this year, the local government's intelligent transportation system (ITS) construction support project (implemented in '23) has been reorganized, and the main contents are as follows.

(Subject to support and schedule for public offering) For special and metropolitan cities, provinces, cities and counties that have already established or plan to establish ITS basic plans this year, we plan to receive proposals from July and select them in September after undergoing written and presentation evaluation (on-site evaluation if necessary).

* State subsidy ratio: 30% in Seoul, 40% in metropolitan cities, 60% in provinces/si/guns

(Evaluation indicator) We plan to strengthen support for local governments with poor business conditions by newly adding additional points for balanced regional development* in the evaluation items. Additional points (maximum 3 points) will be awarded if this joint plan is established.

* Local governments whose balanced development indicators announced by the National Balance Committee do not meet the national average are reflected in additional points according to the level of regional development (up to 5 points)
