Bucheon City announced that this year, the number of 'public Wi-Fi services' that anyone can use for free will be greatly expanded from 7 places in the public living area to about 220 places.

As part of the B-Net (Bucheon Network) construction in the Smart City Challenge project hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport, the city operates public Wi-Fi service in 2021 locations and 7 village bus routes (13 units), including Simgok Stream, Wonmi-dong, Bucheon Northern Station Square, Sangsalmi Village, Central Park, Songnae Station (including transfer center), and Gogang-dong Bank Complex from October 80. As of the end of March, about 3 people are using the service.

Starting with 4 places such as the Sosa National Sports Center bus stop on April 13 this year, it plans to expand to about 10 places by June and about 6 places by November, a total of about 100 places.

As for the location of service construction, 92 parks, 12 libraries, 91 bus stops, 7 welfare centers, 4 traditional markets, 13 walking trails, and 5 digital vulnerable areas are planned.

With this public Wi-Fi service expansion, it is expected that anyone will be able to use Wi-Fi for free in 61.8% of Bucheon's public living areas (currently 23.2%).

A public life zone is a space where citizens' daily lives take place, and among the 7 areas (roads, parks, historic sites, sports grounds, parking lots, and amusement parks), specifically around train stations, rivers, parks, plazas, traditional markets, tourism and sports facilities, major street, bus stop, etc. It occupies 23% (12.29㎢/53.45㎢) of Bucheon’s area.

To use, select 'PublicwifiSecure@Bucheon' on the smartphone Wi-Fi connection screen and enter 'bucheon' in the ID and password fields. Automatic connection is possible wherever 'Bucheon City Public Wi-Fi' is installed by setting it once for the first time.

A city official said, "We will do our best to enhance the digital competitiveness of Bucheon citizens by ensuring that everyone has the basic right to communication so that no citizens are left behind in data access."
