The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (Minister Jeong Hwang-geun, hereinafter MAFRA) has completed a pilot (demo) greenhouse ceremony in Hanoi, Vietnam, a new southern region, to promote exports of intelligent greenhouses (smart farms) and promote overseas expansion of domestic companies. was held on June 6.
To celebrate the completion of the demonstration greenhouse, MAFRA Kim Won-il, Minister of Agriculture and Life Policy, etc. from the Korean side attended, and from the Vietnamese side Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy, Director of Science, Technology and Environment Bureau, Ministry of Agriculture, and Nguyen Hong Son. The dean of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences and Nguyen Quy Duong, deputy director of the Plant Protection Bureau of the Ministry of Agriculture, were in attendance.
In 2020, MAFRA launched the 'Smart Farm Package Export Vitalization' project that integrates support for domestic intelligent greenhouse (smart farm) companies to enter overseas markets, including creating a demonstration (demo) greenhouse, dispatching professional manpower, training local manpower, and marketing. Since then, it has been promoted together with the Korea Agricultural Technology Promotion Agency (greenhouse creation), the Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Food Education and Culture Information Service (education operation), and the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (marketing support).
In 2021, a Korean-style demonstration (demo) greenhouse* was built with our technology in Almaty, Kazakhstan, a new northern region. Although the operation period was not long after construction, local farmers and trainees gave favorable reviews for the Korean-style demonstration (demo) greenhouse and actively promoted the excellence of Korean-style equipment and technology. Visible results are being drawn, such as the expansion of Korean companies' overseas expansion. The greenhouse to be completed this time is also expected to play a big role in expanding into the new southern region in the future as a base for entry into the Korean intelligent greenhouse (smart farm).

In the case of Vietnam, in 2020, a cooperative body (Buffalo Consortium*) was formed with specialized companies in each field, such as greenhouse construction, design, and equipment related to intelligent greenhouses (smart farms), and the project with the Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences was promoted in earnest. The partner company built an intelligent greenhouse (smart farm) of 1 ha in the site of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences using pure Korean technology and equipment.

Along with the creation of the demonstration greenhouse, the Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences and farmers are supporting education* on operation and management of the demonstration greenhouse for Vietnamese university students and farmers so that they can use the demonstration greenhouse. In the future, in the demonstration (demo) greenhouse, students who have completed the training course will grow strawberries and red peppers together with a Korean consortium.
* Short-term training (40 people, 1 week) and long-term training (20 people, around 3 months) are operated by Korean experts dispatched to the field
In addition, in conjunction with the completion ceremony, online export consultations and export revitalization seminars will be held locally to support domestic companies' advancement into the New Southern region. Five local importers participate in the export conference to discuss with 5 domestic companies related to Korean-style intelligent greenhouse (smart farm) equipment and technology. After that, we will discuss ways to expand the entry into the intelligent greenhouse (smart farm) in Southeast Asia, such as sharing Vietnam market trends and discussing entry strategies through the Korea-Vietnam export revitalization seminar.
Last April, a delegation including high-ranking officials from Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture visited Korea and saw the Gimje Intelligent Greenhouse Complex (Smart Farm Innovation Valley) and showed great interest in the excellence of Korean-style intelligent greenhouse (Smart Farm) and the support process for young people. Nguyen Thi Thanh Thu, Director of Science, Technology and Environment, Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture, said, “The pilot (demo) greenhouse completed this time will greatly contribute to the advancement of Vietnamese agricultural technology and the improvement of farmers’ income, and based on Korea’s smart farm technology and experience, intelligent With plans to operate and expand greenhouses (smart farms), we hope that agricultural cooperation between the two countries will be further strengthened in the future.”
MAFRA Director Kim Won-il for Agricultural Life Policy said, “2022 is the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries. “The government will continue to expand support for overseas expansion of companies,” he said.
