The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport and the Saemangeum Development and Investment Agency announced on the 5th that they had designated the Saemangeum National Industrial Complex (Sections 6 and 370, 9063 million ㎡) as Korea's first 'Smart Green National Demonstration Industrial Complex'.

A 'smart green industrial complex' refers to an industrial complex that has built infrastructure in a way that minimizes energy use and expands the supply of renewable energy. The goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 25%.

Saemangeum Development and Investment Agency declared a smart green vision at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Saemangeum National Industrial Complex in December 2020, and established a basic plan for the Smart Green Industrial Complex in December last year, requesting designation of a national pilot industrial complex.

In this regard, MOLIT prepared the institutional basis such as the designation grounds for the pilot industrial complex and special designation exceptions with the revision of the Industrial Location Act in December 2020. prepared

In addition, Saemangeum National Industrial Complex was selected as a smart green industrial complex candidate in April of last year, and last month, it was designated as a smart green national pilot industrial complex through a resolution of the Industrial Location Policy Council.

The Saemangeum Smart Green Industrial Complex aims to realize a 'RE25 (2040% supply/consumption of energy used in industrial complexes with renewable energy) industrial complex' by 100 as an industrial complex for energy independence going further than reducing greenhouse gas by 100%. have.

In order to achieve the goal, 2029MW solar power generation facilities including 30MW on the roof of buildings (parking lot, etc.) and 30MW for leading projects will be built in the short term by 180. In the long term until 2040, the RE100 will be supported by utilizing floating solar and fuel cell power generation.

In addition, an energy integration platform that increases the energy self-reliance rate through energy data collection, utilization, and monitoring, and an energy storage system (ESS) to supplement the intermittent characteristics and variability of new and renewable power sources. A microgrid (independent power grid) will also be applied.

By using ammonia mixed combustion, which does not emit carbon dioxide even after combustion, it plans to reduce greenhouse gases and promote the supply of eco-friendly thermal energy.

We will also promote the establishment of a digital twin-based smart integrated safety system and drone control system so that risk situations can be immediately detected and preemptive responses can be taken through real-time collection and monitoring of various information within the industrial complex.

Yoon Young-joong, head of MOLIT's Industrial Location Policy Division, said, "This designation is the first step towards improving the structure of the industrial complex, such as energy independence and support for corporate manufacturing activities." said.
