Operating a total of 2019 living labs since 6… Purpose of improving mobility and accessibility in traffic vulnerable areas

Incheon Metropolitan City (Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok) announced that it started the final season of 'Smart Mobility Living Lab', which is part of the Incheon Smart City Challenge project promoted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport, on September 9th.

The 'Smart Mobility Living Lab', which has been in progress since 2019 after being selected for the MOLIT competition, is a project that Incheon City and Yonsei University (Hyundai Motor Consortium) demonstrate 'Social Participation I-Multimodal Service'. The purpose of this is to introduce smart mobility centered on vulnerable areas in Incheon, and upgrade it to a civic experience-type service with improved mobility and traffic accessibility.

The main demonstration services of the Living Lab, which have been promoted since last month, are the demand-response bus I-MOD, the shared electric kickboard I-ZET, and I-I, a pre-order and simple payment service tailored to arrival location information. I-ORDER, and I-TRIP, a multi-modal platform that integrates these services with Incheon City's public transportation to inform various location information and means of transportation.
A total of 5 citizens will participate in the Living Lab for a total of 6 seasons, held in 273 regions including this season. Up to now, Living Labs have created various operational policies and advancement plans led by citizens participating in Living Labs through service-specific improvement policies, data analysis scenarios, physical computing-based prototypes, subscriptions, and publicity.

In the Yeongjongdo Living Lab (YoungS Lab seasons 2019 and 2021) held in 1 and 2, service operation rules, multi-modal functions, and future transportation service definitions were derived. I-MOD-related feedback, quantitative and qualitative citizen data, and prototypes made by citizens at the SongS Lab in 2020 and 2021, and at the Geomdan and Gyeyang Living Lab in 2022 Subscription service operation and promotion plan were derived. The rate of reflection of performance sharing of citizen ideas derived during the last Living Lab period reached 83%.

Based on this, this season, which will be held at Incheon Startup Park for 20 weeks until October 6, will summarize the 4 seasons that have been held for the past 5 years in Yeongjongdo, Songdo, Namdong, and Geomdan and Gyeyang, and also increase the demand for future mobility services. We plan to explore together.

Professor Jeong-Hoon Lee of Yonsei University, who oversees the Living Lab, explained, “The Smart Mobility Living Lab is a medium that transforms new mobility technology-based services into innovation in our daily lives, and is developing into a platform where citizens, private and public participate together.” .

Ji-young Kim, Smart City Manager of Incheon City, said, “The Smart Mobility Living Lab is expected to improve Incheon’s multi-modal mobility service through citizen-led active operation and to serve as a starting point for the future transportation service system by spreading the results to each region in Korea. .” he said.
