What is Life Logistics Data?

  • Statistical Name: Seoul Living Logistics (English: Seoul Consumer Logistics)
  • Statistics type: experimental statistics (Experimental No. 2023-001, Statistics Korea), processed statistics
  • Statistical Overview: Parcel logistics volume information by region and product type in Seoul jointly developed by Seoul Metropolitan Government and CJ OliveNetworks using CJ Korea Express' courier invoice data

□ The Seoul Metropolitan Government, together with CJ OliveNetworks, will open 「Seoul Living Logistics」 data based on CJ Logistics courier invoice data to the Seoul Open Data Square (data.seoul.go.kr).

□ Since 21, the city of Seoul has been using the private delivery volume data for policies such as establishing a basic logistics plan for Seoul and selecting a location for a logistics center. This time, in cooperation with CJ OliveNetworks, 「Seoul Living Logistics」 (Experimental No. 2023-001, Statistics Korea) will be opened. The data has been registered as Statistics Korea experimental statistics and is expected to be produced and managed over the next three years.

○ 「Seoul Life Logistics」 data was developed based on the data of CJ Logistics, the No.

○ The open 「Seoul Living Logistics」 data is composed of 11) national cities and provinces (output)-Seoul autonomous districts (arrival), 1) Seoul autonomous districts (output) and national cities and provinces (arrival), and 2) Seoul autonomous districts (output) and Seoul autonomous districts (arrival) unit data linked by product classification (3 types).

□ The 「Seoul Life Logistics」 data is developed by artificial intelligence (AI) learning of billions of delivery invoice product names. The data is divided into 10 categories through deep learning techniques, and product names that cannot be classified are treated as 'Other' and opened based on a total of 11 major categories.

□ For example, based on CJ Logistics' 29,386,807 parcels arriving in Seoul from all over the country (monthly in '22.December), food accounted for 23.19%, fashion clothing 17.35%, and life/health 14.79%. Among foods, processed foods accounted for the most with 7.07% of the total, followed by agricultural products with 4.35% and health foods with 3.72%.

□ Citizens who need more detailed logistics data in addition to the data open to the open data plaza can use it by visiting Big Data Campus (bigdata.seoul.go.kr) after applying for use. In the Big Data Campus, product units are divided into middle categories (129 types) and data of units below administrative districts are provided.

□ It is expected that the private sector will be able to create additional services using the 「Seoul Life Logistics」 data, such as location selection for small logistics centers and location selection for offline stores based on online demand, using the data that will be opened.

□ In addition, the Seoul Metropolitan Government expects that the 「Seoul Living Logistics」 data will be used to establish policies for future Seoul, such as reduction of parcel packaging waste and research on optimizing transportation means according to the volume of logistics.

□ Kim Jin-man, Digital Policy Officer of the Seoul Metropolitan Government, said, “This 「Seoul Life Logistics」data is certified as experimental statistics by Statistics Korea, and it is meaningful that it is the first public institution to open delivery big data.”
