Sharing the success secrets of leading local governments and providing expert advice

The achievements of excellent innovation cases promoted by several local governments will be spread across the country, allowing many residents to directly experience them in their daily lives.

The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 2023th that it will select 9 projects from 47 local governments that will promote nine innovation cases in the '55 Local Government Innovation Performance Expansion Support Project' contest targeting local governments across the country and support 20 billion won in special subsidy tax.

This project, which has been in progress since 2019, selects innovative cases whose excellence has been verified through various evaluations and contests, and then provides public support for local governments that want to introduce them.

This year, private experts and others participated and selected ▲improvement of pedestrian safety at crosswalks ▲improvement of roundabouts ▲creation of state-of-the-art futuristic bus stops and smart shelters as innovation cases, and local governments wishing to introduce them were invited to participate.

Among the major cases, first, the improvement of pedestrian safety at crosswalks supports the installation of red remaining time indicators for pedestrian traffic lights at crosswalks, the creation of smart crosswalks, and the installation of safety traffic lights in child protection zones.

This project will spread to 15 local governments, including Gwangju City in Gyeonggi Province and Tongyeong City in South Gyeongsang Province, with a special education tax of 6 million won.

The case of roundabout improvement, in which LED guidance lights are installed on the circular sidewall of the roundabout to reduce driving speed and induce concession driving, is spread to eight local governments, including Eumseong-gun in Chungcheongbuk-do and Jangsu-gun in Jeonbuk, and supports a special education tax of 8 million won.

The case of creating a state-of-the-art futuristic bus stop smart shelter to enhance the convenience of bus stop users, such as cooling and heating, as well as fine dust purification functions and providing space for wheelchairs and strollers, is supported by a special tax of 6 million won to spread to six local governments, including Gangseo-gu in Seoul and Asan-si in Chungcheongnam-do.

In addition, ▲ road name address assignment (10 local governments) ▲ IoT technology-integrated light evacuation guidance device development and distribution (5 local governments) ▲ artificial intelligence can and PET bottle recovery robot installation (4 local governments) ▲ operation of public futon launderettes for the underprivileged (4 local governments) ▲ expansion of automatic emergency car recognition function (2 local governments) ▲ creation of electric wheelchair driving practice centers (1 local government).

Meanwhile, MOPAS decided to share the success secrets of the local governments that led the case so that the selected projects can be successfully promoted in each local government, and to support quarterly progress checks and expert advice.

Jeong Seon-yong, head of MOPAS Government Innovation Organization Office, said, “MOPAS will be actively spread so that many residents can directly experience and enjoy the excellent achievements of government innovation.”
