Sejong Special Self-Governing City (Mayor Choi Min-ho) is opening up economic exchanges based on the cutting-edge technology of Northern Ireland, a key location for the British and European Union (EU) markets, and is collaborating with Queen's University, famous for cybersecurity research.

 

The city announced on the 8th (local time) that a business agreement was signed between Sejong Techno Park and the Northern Ireland Trade and Investment Office at the headquarters of the Northern Ireland Trade and Investment Office in the UK.

 

The agreement was attended by Sejong City Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs Lee Seung-won, Sejong Techno Park Director Yang Hyun-bong, and Northern Ireland Trade and Investment Office Trade and Investment Director Anne Beggs.

 

In the future, the two organizations decided to strengthen their cooperative relationship and engage in long-term exchanges, including overseas expansion of companies in strategic industries to build intelligent cities (smart cities).

 

The Northern Ireland Trade and Investment Authority is a specialized investment attraction agency established to promote economic development and attract trade and investment in Northern Ireland.

 

With this agreement, the two organizations plan to engage in collaborative research to help budding companies and small and medium-sized enterprises in each city develop overseas markets and establish a joint research program.

 

In addition, we will promote business exchange through active information sharing and discover areas of common interest between both cities.

 

On the afternoon of the same day, the city also signed a 'Business Agreement between Sejong City-Korea University Sejong Campus-Queen's University' at Queen's University Belfast with Kim Young, Vice President of Korea University Sejong Campus and Chris Johnson, Vice President of Queen's University in attendance.

 

The main contents of the agreement include ▲post-quantum cryptography (quantum-resistant cryptography) ▲cyber security technology ▲cooperation in cyber security-related conferences such as Hacktheon Sejong.

Queen's University is a prestigious British university founded in 1845. It hosts the Center for Security Information (CSIT), run by the British government, and is famous for its cyber security research.

 

Korea University's Sejong Campus is also running a Ministry of Science and ICT University Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Research Center (ITRC) support project and an information security specialized university undergraduate manpower training course, showing high interest in research in the field of cyber security.

 

The city has continued to cooperate closely with the Northern Ireland Trade and Investment Office, Queen's University, and Korea University's Sejong Campus to reach this business agreement.

 

Northern Ireland is the only region in the world where goods can be freely traded in the UK and European Union (EU) markets.

 

More than 1200 global companies from around the world are located here, and it boasts the world's highest level of financial technology (fintech) investment inflow, with more than 70% of new investors choosing to reinvest.

 

In addition, it has an international reputation in cutting-edge manufacturing and technology development, with more than 30% of the world's aircraft seats manufactured in Northern Ireland.

 

Deputy Mayor for Economy Lee Seung-won said, “Northern Ireland’s knowledge-based economy is growing the fastest in the UK,” and added, “We will continue to collaborate with these organizations by making full use of Northern Ireland’s technological strengths.”

 

Meanwhile, the Sejong City delegation visits Angoka, a representative cyber security risk management solution specialist in Belfast City, and discusses related policies.
