– A place for future autonomous vehicle talent including high school, college, and graduate students across the country… Autonomous driving technology competition at the 1st competition

– Self-driving car simulation in “Sangam Virtual Reality World,” implemented identically to reality with digital twin technology

– Providing a unique experience of virtual reality autonomous driving at Korea’s largest e-sports competition venue, “Sangam Africa Coliseum”

– City establishes a virtuous cycle system to hone technology in online virtual reality and commercialize autonomous driving in reality (offline)

□ The city of Seoul, together with the Korea Transportation Safety Authority's Automobile Safety Research Institute, Naver Cloud, Naver Labs, Morai, and AfreecaTV, will hold the "10.30st Seoul Virtual Reality" event where future generations can show off their autonomous driving technology in an online virtual reality world on Monday, October 1. (Virtual) Autonomous Driving Challenge” will be held and applications for participation will be accepted starting from Friday, August 8.25th.

□ Any high school, college, or graduate student from across the country who is interested in autonomous driving can form a team (3 to 5 people per team) and apply. Applications for participation can be made through the Morai website (https://www.morai), which co-hosts the challenge with the city. It is available until Friday, September 9.15th through .ai /svadc).

□ The challenge is held in preliminary and final rounds, and the 20 teams that advance to the finals start their self-driving cars simultaneously in the virtual reality world and compete in ▲driving on the shortest route ▲changing lanes ▲obeying traffic signals ▲avoiding unexpected situations and illegal parking ▲high-speed driving ▲weather The finals are held in a way that determines the ranking in order of quickly arriving at the destination while performing the given tasks (missions), such as responding to situations, without violating the law.

○ In particular, the city explained that it plans to take full advantage of the advantages of the virtual reality world by competing with various autonomous driving technologies, such as high-speed driving and driving when weather conditions change, which are difficult to compete in for safety reasons in real road environments.

□ The finals will be held on Monday, October 10.30th at the “Sangam Africa Coliseum,” the largest e-sports stadium in Korea, and various programs such as contests and self-driving robot exhibitions will be held together.

○ We plan to provide a unique experience of autonomous driving to citizens who are not present by broadcasting the competition live through YouTube, etc.

□ The city used domestic digital twin technology to target the “Sangam Autonomous Vehicle Pilot Zone,” a virtual reality space where this challenge was held in April last year, and ▴urban environment such as buildings and street trees based on 4D precision road map (HD). A virtual reality world specialized for autonomous driving has been implemented that reflects ▴traffic environments such as actual roads and traffic signals, ▴protected areas such as children's protection zones, and ▴even weather conditions such as snow and rain.

○ In addition, we actively supported the development of autonomous driving technology by opening an online “autonomous car simulator” that allows simulated driving in a virtual reality world to schools, etc., free of charge.

□ With a spirit of constant challenge, the city awarded the Seoul Mayor's Award to 20 of the 5 teams that advanced to the finals, and the winners received a small prize (1 million won for 500st place, etc.), and the 3rd place winners passed the document screening when recruiting at Naver Labs. Special benefits will be provided.

□ In connection with the holding of the challenge, the city will continue to expand the self-driving virtual reality territory not only in Sangam but also throughout Seoul, including Gangnam, Yeouido, and downtown, providing a base for autonomous driving simulation that combines extensive road and traffic data that is difficult to build in the private sector. It plans to serve as a catalyst to support the development and commercialization of autonomous driving technology.

□ Jong-jang Yoon, head of the Seoul Metropolitan Government's Urban Transportation Department, said, “I have high expectations for this competition as future autonomous vehicle talents will demonstrate their skills in the self-driving virtual reality world built by Seoul City with domestic technology.” He added, “The world's best self-driving virtual reality driving environment.” “Based on this construction, we will spare no effort in providing various support to help the city grow into an ‘open autonomous driving commercialization city’ visited by global companies,” he said.
