Selected in the domestic city category at Asia-Pacific’s largest smart city event
Received high scores in disaster safety, transportation, and smart administration fields
Sejong Special Self-Governing City (Mayor Choi Min-ho) was selected as the winning organization in the domestic 'City' category at the '60 World Smart City Expo Awards', in which more than 200 cities and smart city companies from 2023 countries around the world participate.
World Smart City Expo 2023 is the largest smart city event in the Asia-Pacific region where governments, companies, and smart city experts from around the world draw future cities.
This year's event is hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport, the Ministry of Science and ICT, and organized by Korea Land and Housing Corporation, Korea Water Resources Corporation, and KINTEX, and will be held at KINTEX in Ilsan from September 9 to 6.
At the 2023 World Smart City Expo Awards, a contest will be held for local governments and companies at home and abroad, and a total of 5 excellent cases will be selected and awarded in five categories, including overseas cities, domestic cities, mobility, energy & environment, and safety & solutions.
Among these, Sejong City achieved the feat of being selected in the city category for domestic local governments in recognition of its achievements in utilizing various innovative technologies in the fields of disaster safety, transportation, and smart administration to solve urban problems.
In particular, the city was recognized for its excellence in the field of disaster safety by promoting artificial intelligence (AI)-based closed circuit (CC) TV control and predictive analysis of vulnerable areas to respond to fire risk factors using big data.
In addition, in the transportation field, it received high scores for realizing innovative ideas to create a sustainable city, such as promoting the National Pilot Smart City Smart Mobility Comprehensive Demonstration Project and the development of the Sejong-type autonomous driving industry.
Furthermore, it received attention for providing smart administrative services such as 'Sejong City App', a citizen-participatory governance to prevent and solve citizen-led problems, and 'Sejong N', a location-based life information service.
The WSCE 2023 Awards ceremony will be held at KINTEX in Ilsan during the 2023 World Smart City Expo.
